Forfeits

Marabulla or Forfeits is Silvia Rodríguez's invitation to us to recover our past through hers, presented in a series of precious moments of innocence and love as viewed from the perspective and wisdom of adulthood. They are poems of the celebration of life and love lived carefree and the bitter-sweet experience of maturity and inevitable loss to which we can all relate, poetic snapshots of our existence in time and space and the forfeits we have to pay. Translating her work has triggered many happy memories of my own past that everyday experience had dulled and allowed me to celebrate, in a true Sankofa journey, the miraculous poetry of life and love.
