He has a reputation. She's about to discover the truth.
From USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Sucevic comes a sexy new adult, college sports romance.
Trust me when I say that Rowan Michaels fever is alive and well at Western University. His fanbase is legendary. The guy is a major player. Both on and off the field. Girls fall all over themselves to be with him. They fill the stands at football practice, show up at parties he’s rumored to be at, and basically stalk him around campus
It’s a little nauseating
Don’t these girls have any self-respect when it comes to a hot guy?
Fine...I’ll admit it, he’s good looking. If you’re into that kind of thing. Which I’m not. I’ve got school and soccer to keep me busy which is exactly why I avoid him like an unfortunate clap diagnosis
Too bad for me that Rowan is my father’s star quarterback. He’s practically part of the family, attending Wednesday night dinners with us. To make matters worse, we’re in the same major and get stuck together in classes every semester. It’s like the universe is trying to play a cosmic joke on me. The one guy I’d like to steer clear of is the very same one I can’t seem to get away from. But what if Rowan isn’t the player I pegged him to be?
What if one little secret has the capability to change everything between us?

2.5 stars: Talk about thinking you're reading one thing
And you get something else. So, the H's a virgin. NICE- I was EXCITED to read this! I don't ever mind reading books were the H's a virgin. Sometimes it's a double v situation, sometimes the h is experienced, sometimes she's on the l00se side. What I don't understand is why have the H WAITING for the h (for *reasons*) while being a $lu++y virgin? Yeah, you read that right. He's a $lu+.
Let me break this down. SPOILERS ahead
Demi (21/22) plays soccer. It's her senior year in college and her dad's the football coach. She eats weekly dinners with her dad and his protégée, Rowan (21). They've been doing this for 7 YEARS (yeah, SEVEN!!!), yet she's never gotten close to him. He has a manhooooar reputation- girls always talk about him and the things they've done smexually 😐. He's NOT a lonely guy, which is why she's stayed away from him. She thinks he's handsome and has always felt a certain way for him but can't stand how loose he is 🤷🏻♀️.
So what does she do? She does the sensible thing- she has boyfriends like a normal college student, which I appreciated💁🏻♀️. This bumps up the book for me. Had she remained celibate, I would've lowered the rating even more. Why? Well, apparently, the H has been wanting the h for a while.
There's some delicious tension throughout👀. They share a class and he ALWAYS makes it a point to sit next to her. When he tries to walk with her after class, he usually gets bombarded by girls🙄, but it doesn't dissuade him from pursuing her.
Here's the thing. Why did he wait until NOW😑? Why didn't he try this sooner🙈? Or better yet, why not take her from some of her previous boyfriends🤷🏻♀️. All of these are valid questions. Maybe it's because her dad is making her tutor him now? The point is- he’s finally making a move after SEVEN years 😐.
She leaves to get some space from the drama her roomie and her on/off again bf have, and Rowan decides to follow her there. Finally, we get some heat delivered🔥. When they share their first kiss (about 41%), she stops them from going further because she's done being with a h0€ athlete (her ex is a baseball player and had been cheating on her for a while) and at 43% he reveals he's a virgin. At first, she thinks "OMG he's g@y", but then, he tells her it's because he's been waiting for someone... (and WE know who he’s talking about)
Cue potential swooooony moment (followed by the womp womp after).
He clarifies that all of these girls, all of these rumors, were just that- RUMORS. He really IS a v. When they start getting hot and heavy again, she asks if he has experience in some things and asks about blowies. He confesses he's had A LOT of them😐, LOTs of them🥴, starting his sophomore year in high school (after he met her and wanted her before their freshmen year), and you know what he would do?
Can you guess yet? He would picture the h when receiving them😵💫. That's right- this "swoony" guy liked when the other women had long brown hair like Demi 🥴so he could picture her while he was being *pleasured*😒🤢. Oh, and he also LOOOOVES to reciprocate (he tells the h this when she tells him that she's never received 0ral and only giving them to three of her bfs- she's been with 5). He even mentions that he loves the feeling of exploding in their mouths. Best. Feeling. Ever. What a swell guy 🥴
I'll give him points for the dirty talk and giving her Os. I mean, he might be a v, but he knows what to do😐.
When they give 0r@l to each other, he mentions (we are in his head) how he's had amazing ones before 😐 (womp womp), but this one is *different* and he feels a *connection* to the h, unlike the other ones.
Sigh...
At 57%, when he's going to continue pleasing her, he says it's the first time he can take his time with a girl- usually, he has to hurry up with the other girls he's pleasing because they're at a party, but with the h, he can take his time now.
WHY IS HE EVEN THINKING OF OTHER WOMEN!!!??? 🤦🏻♀️🤬Lord, please TAKE THE WHEEL😵💫!
He finally loses his v at 74%, but I found it hard to enjoy this book like I normally would ugh. He kept thinking of his previous experience when he should've been ONLY thinking about Demi. Hello, earth to Rowan 👏🏻 ! You're getting the girl that you've been wanting for 👏🏻SEVEN👏🏻YEARS👏🏻- please concentrate on her only💁🏻♀️... mmm hmm... k thanks BYE💅!
UGH!🙈
The stars are for Demi- for not waiting around for him and being a pining virgin this whole time. Good for you Demi lol.
Again, I love reading books with a virgin H, but how can he be considered a virgin when he's been with lots and lots of other women in smexual ways? 😑🥴
Also- his *reasons* for not taking life by the horns and getting Demi sooner were not even clarified or even really explained. It's kind of inferred. Sigh- I need me an alpha man, not a beta that watches the girl that he wants be in other relationships while he’s with tons of smexual situations with other girls 🙄. Virgin my a$$ 😂💀
⚠️safety squad⚠️ -no cheating (between MCs)/sharing -OM- h has a bf in the beginning of the book- OM cheats on h and has been cheating on her the whole time. Only bjs though 🙄. He tries to get back with her -H has a player reputation -OW constantly swarm him 🙄 CONSTANTLY 😑 -one OW goes into his room and is about to show H her b00bs when the h walks in (H is telling OW no) after she’s been rubbing her braless b00bs all over the H’s back -h has been with 5 guys/H is a “virgin” -H admits to receiving lots of bjs. His first one was sophomore year of high school. The OW had brown hair like the h which allowed him to picture the h. He remembers how amazing it was to explode in her mouth. The h has given 3 of her 5 partners bjs. None have ever given her oral
so in my original review, I was going to do a run down of the whole novel with major and minor spoilers for the novel because I was very angry. but after writing most of that review, it felt pointless and unnecessary. this story is just a novel filled with themes and storylines commonly used in other NA romance books, so it'd be a waste of time to tell you about them all.
I kinda liked Rowan and Demi for most of the novel, but I became impartial to both of their characters because they seemed so boring and unordinary towards the novel's ending. the plot was basic, the writing annoyed me for most of the novel because of the unnecessary comments and exclamation marks, and the romance was fine.
if I had to use one word to describe "Campus Player", I'd use the word subpar because nothing about this was exciting nor disparate. this novel was just so bad and unoriginal it wasn't even fun anymore. I just began regretting starting this book more and more as I kept reading. after finishing this, I didn't want to read anything else because I thought that any other book would be a disappointment like this one. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.
DNF @ 44% - passive hero who has loved the h for 8 years but inexplicably never made a move. 🙄 He’s a star QB in college and has women hanging off of him and a manwhore reputation…. I was assuming that he didn’t make a move because of that reputation… but then we find out at 44% that he’s actually a virgin and has been saving himself for the h… and I guess he just sat around watching her date and sleep with other dudes for shits and giggles?? I don’t understand. Whyyyyyyyyyyyy??? I just can’t with a passive hero. Her dad loves him. This is LAME.
Also, this guy has been a fixture in the h’s home and family for 8 years. He has dinner with her family every week. Her father treats him like a son. But this gal knows absolutely nothing about him. Nothing. 👀👀 what kind of self absorbed person never asks a question from the person they are having dinner with? Weekly?
Meh. If this is worth continuing, someone will need to talk me down.

I really wanted to LOVE this one, I love the cover, enjoyed the synopsis, and was so super excited. I was in the mood for a sports romance.
This book was cute at times, had decent spice, and I liked the basis of the story. And I found myself having a really hard time putting it down because I needed to know what was going to happen. I did enjoy the chemistry between the two MCs too. You could tell they had chemistry.
But there were quite a few things that didn’t sit well with me. Including the pick me girl vibes from the FMC, the thinking of other men and woman while the two MCs got together, the third act breakup, and a few more things that just weren’t my cup of tea.
I mean I could not stop reading this because I needed to know the end of the story, but overall it wasn’t my favorite sadly. I do love the cover a lot though, I have the discreet cover and it’s so cute.
Campus Player is the story of 2 college athletes: one, a judgmental girl and the other a nice guy with an undeserved reputation. Demi was difficult for me to really like at times. She frequently mentions her parents divorce and how her dad was to blame. I get it, his life was his job, but it seems Demi is still upset about it. Her mom? She moved on and got remarried and is happy. Its Demi who can't seem to let it go. Also, even though she herself deals with numerous untrue rumors, she blindly believes everything she hears about Rowan.
Now, Rowan is everything you want in a romance hero! He is devoted, sweet, and super romantic. I just adored him so much! He has always held a candle for Demi, even though she seemed to despise him. When he finally tells her, I just wanted to hug him! He had to be brave and speak up. Swoon! And everything he does is for her. He supports her dreams of playing professional soccer even if it means they might not be in the same city upon graduation (since he is going into the NFL).
I'm perhaps a bit harsh on Demi. Maybe I'm just in a mood. But, regardless of my personal feelings on her, readers will LOVE Rowan, so give Campus Player a shot!
POV: dual 1st Tears: no Trope: hate to love you, athletes, college Series/Standalone: standalone Cliffhanger: HEA:

I want to like Campus Player so bad, but I just can't. The whole story makes me cringe. Uncomfortable cringe. Miss Sucevic trying to put Rowan as bad guy but innocent tupe of hero. The plot about his virginity is just does not make any sense.
DNF @ 50%... This book is a frustrating. Tbh, I wasn’t a fan of the hero being a virgin while the heroine had been with OM before… but what I don’t understand at all… is the point of making him a virgin while still being sexually active in all other ways. Like somehow not having sex but still being willing to receive and give oral sex isn’t as intimate? The whole idea of the hero “waiting” for the heroine seems 🤡

Sports romance are typically a must for me. This one has several elements that I love. It has a hot jock who you love to love. Wink. What surprised me most is that our heroine was the one you hate a bit. Haha. She has the brat thing going on for a good portion of this book. I kept reading to get some clarity. It is a good read that kept my intrigue high for most of the story. Overall I would give this book 3.5 stars rating.

STORY: WHAT I LIKED: Before we started getting Rowan’s pov in the book, I already had him pegged as the dushy athlete, but he actually surprised me in this book. He was a breath of fresh air in a way and this made me love him even more. Demi was a tiny bit all over the place but I don’t think intentionally. Both Rowan and Demi’s journey could be nice and I like seeing them figuring it out.
WHAT WAS SO SO: Just words, words, and more words of the same thing. I didn’t feel like some scenes are needed. As much as I liked seeing Rowan and Demi together, at times their connection felt tamed also. I wanted the sweet which I got, but need more excitement. You had the climax misunderstanding, but the happily ever after was too quickly done. I also felt Rowan’s POV had more interactions, while Demi’s read like a diary other times as well.
SEXUAL CHEMISTRY Sex scenes were good. I like the way the author did Rowan’s character. It was interesting seeing the roles reversed with whose holding back and who wants it more.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS: To be honest, Sydney was good and although she had and off and on again boyfriend, I loved the build up of sorts with her and Brayden. The other characters definitely made the book interesting when it came to the, rumors, cattiness and jealously from the other characters.
OVERALL: Was I entertained? Yes. Did I like the story? Yes but had unnecessary scenes that made it dragged a bit. Would I read the other book in the series? Yes, because the characters chemistry was intense-ish and sparked my interest.
TRIGGERS:
****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.
I read these two books completely backwards and I have no regrets. Because they were both great standalone college sports romances. And I didn't lose anything from having read them out of order. I grabbed this one on audible so I could listen to this while I adulted.
Demi and Rowan were both really interesting and easy to like characters. I had a few moments where I thought it was going to go a certain way and was happy to see it go a different one. I was so glad to have completely misjudged Rowan and I loved him so much until he did the stupid boy thing.
Why do these new adult heroes always do the dumbest things in their effort to "protect" the heroines. Instead of using their big boy words they act like idiots and I want to slap them. Thankfully Rowan had his head removed from it's uncomfortable position and fixed things really quickly.
Demi was slightly annoying at moments. She read too much into the gossip mill and let them dictate her actions. Especially when she knew that most of it was garbage. There were situations where she was so strong and independent and others where she needed to grow a back bone and smack a certain person.
Overall the book was good and I thoroughly enjoyed the story. Hopefully there will be more to the series in the future.
I haven't read a book where the hero is a virgin in a while. It was a nice change😂 It was an okay read. I didn't really like Demi in the begining, she was a little judgemental and didn't get how they knew each other for 7 years but didn't know nothing about one another. I hate when people jump to conclusions based on rumors and that was the whole first half of this book. Thats the reason why I couldn't connect with her, but she was more likable in the second half. Also they have sex for the first time and that was it.. I kinda expected more steamy moments.🤷♀️ Overall, it was an okay sports romance.

Pretty sure I received this book in my Romance Reveal box at some point. I"ll be honest, I randomly picked up the book up and didn't even read the blurb.
The book was good; beyond predictable. The only thing that threw me off was that the H was a virgin and the h was not. You don't find that in books - ever! The characters were likable even if the story was predictable.
It was very NA and reminded me of my early college years. There wasn't a whole lot of spice - 3/5 for that.
Over all a 4 star read. The author does story telling (w/ details) well!
I really wanted to like this more, and rate it higher, but I can't. Maybe it's a me thing. It just came across as high school level drama instead of people about to graduate from college. I'm probably too old, but I was looking for a sports romance. The character I did like was the H Rowan. Who was hesitant about everything moving forward with Demi. At first. It was understandable though considering his background. I really didn't vibe with the h Demi. She was a weak character that just didn't fit the description the author presented. I guess she was trying to show her vulnerability, but she came off kinda pathetic. No way can a team captain act this way. Letting people walk all over her. I get it. She's human. But at some point you really do need to tell people to sit the f down, and shut the f up. She was so afraid of the gossip. I was not surprised she hung up her cleats at the end. And knowing Rowan wanted to not be private about their relationship, but she did irked me. It was a self centered, selfish move that made Rowan feel like crap. She can shout self preservation all she wants. I was not a fan. But thank goodness that didn't last too many chapters.
All in all the author tried to make some thing's angsty, but then it just fizzled out and fell flat to be honest. It was a decent read though, so it wasn't all bad. I did want to find out the ending.
Forgot to add. There's a third act break-up towards the end. Know that's a pet peeve for some and just wanted to add that

XD
Plot: Rowan and Demi have known each other since high school but Demi wants nothing to do with him because of his reputation as a player. That's a problem though since he's the star quarterback of their college football team, and her dad's the coach. Rowan is at their home often and he wants to be her friend, something she desperately needs as her life seems to fall apart. The truth is that Rowan would like to be more than friends if he can ever get Demi to look at him with something other than disgust.
Commentary: Well Rowan was an absolute sweetie in so many ways (up until the "push her away for her own good" trope)! I loved him, and honestly, I liked Demi too. She had a good head on her shoulders, unlike a lot of NA heroines. NA isn't my favorite, but I think it was done right here - kids who were looking to their future but still learning to be productive citizens who can eventually make good choices. I also loved Demi's dad - he was a good guy who took care of his players and even though he was married to his work, he really was always aware of what was going on with his daughter (and Rowan too!).
"I don't want him to realize how much he affects me. Or how much willpower it takes to fight the magnetic pull I feel toward him."
Demi Richards has known Rowan Michaels since they were 14 when her father, a football coach, took him under his wing. Seven years later, they are seniors at college, they've shared at least one class every semester, he comes to dinner every Wednesday, and she avoids him like the plague. He is as well-known around campus as a player headed for the NFL, as well as a manwhore. A very good reason to keep away from him, even though there's always been a frisson between them. However, when Rowan forces her to really look at him and get to know him, she realises that her perception of him could be somewhat skewed.
"I'm not the only one who feels the strange gravitational pull. Whether she wants to admit it or not, there is a bond that connects us to one another."
I thoroughly enjoyed this story! Demi has always been stubborn in her misperception of Rowan. She made assumptions about him without really getting to know him - probably out of self-preservation. He had been unbelievably patient throughout the years, although the fact his coach is her dad made her somewhat off-limits to him. However, from the first moment we see them together, there's no denying their connection and their effect on one another.
"You have to know that once I have you, you'll be mine, and I won't let you go anytime soon."
I loved his depth of feeling for her - she almost didn't deserve it after the way she'd always kept him at arm's length for no really good reason! Rowan was a good guy through and through, and I loved that he wasn't a jerk or arrogant or cocky, when he could so easily have been. He was a beautiful guy who'd worked hard to lift himself up from his troubled background. Overall, a fab story that was sexy, sweet and pretty satisfying!
Campus Player is the first book I've read by Jennifer Sucevic, and I really liked this slow-burn college athlete romance. At times, I really didn't like Demi, but I loved Rowan right from the start. I found Demi to be extremely judgmental, and at times it was really hard to root for her to get the guy because Rowan was just SO sweet.
Demi has lived her life as the daughter of a popular college football coach, and since she now attends the same college where her dad coaches, she's often been the subject of rumors that she's fooling around with team members. While she has dated fellow athletes, she has a rule against dating one of her dad's players... despite the fact that she clearly feels sparks whenever she's around Rowan. And since he's kind of unofficially part of her family with her dad being his mentor, she's around him A LOT. But Demi judges EVERYONE. She wants nothing to do with Rowan because of the rumors that he's a player.
And Rowan is just so damn sweet. I almost felt at times that he didn't deserve her. He's been in love with Demi for years, and has been keeping notes on all the little things that she likes. They have family dinner together once a week at her dad's house, and while Rowan knows everything she's shared over the last few years, I don't think there's a single personal fact about Rowan that Demi knows!
So when these two finally get together, I loved how open and honest he is with Demi. Again, she was quick to judge his situation and almost didn't believe him when he confessed that he'd been waiting for her, making me wonder if she deserved him at all. Things are all fine and dandy between them for a while until Rowan's bad-news dad pops up. I get why he makes the decision that he does in order to protect Demi and her father, but I hated that he made that choice at the same time. And Demi didn't think to question what she walked in on? Did she not know him and how he feels about her by then?
Overall, Campus Player is an enjoyable college sports romance. Despite my feelings for the heroine, I did like Rowan a ton as a hero, and that's what kept me reading!
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
Oh, cavolo!
This was a cute, low-angst college sports romance that I did like, but like there was just that *something* missing to make me really love it.
Demi is the coaches daughter, and an athlete herself (she plays soccer) and is fiercely independent. Rowan has been apart of her life for year since her father essentially took him under his wing, and there's so much more to this 'playboy' than meets the eye! Rowan is hands down one of my favorite heroes. He's so sweet and sensitive, yet alpha at the same time. He definitely knows how to push Demi's buttons, and they have some truly great banter, which if you've read some of my previous reviews, you know that's a must for me! The slightly forbidden aspect of their relationship also really intrigued me, and I couldn't wait to see how it all played out.
I think what kept me from really loving this book was Demi's attitude. She was sooo judgemental and rude, and even though she did slowly start to realize how she was acting and changed it, it was just too late for me. I always feel sad when I can't connect with the heroine, and that was the case here. I also felt like most of the subplots were wrapped up too quickly and easily.
I did however really love Rowan. He's easily the best part of this book! I just wish we had more of his own POV.
So although this wasn't my favorite romance, this was still a cute read!
**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions!**
Rowan is every girls dream football playing book boyfriend. I absolutely adored him. As we got to know him we discovered that he definitely wasn't the typical player and he had so many surprises in store for us. Demi has had enough of bad boys who think the world owes them something and she makes Rowan work hard to show her that he is better than that. A great easy to read sports romance.
I love Jennifer Sucevic's books, and Campus Player was no exception. Demi and Rowan's story hooked me from the beginning and Rowan in particular...there was so much more to him than first appearances would suggest. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but if you love college romance, you won't want to miss this story! Loved it!
This book sounds exactly the same as a another one I just finished reading and reviewing this month. I don't really have much to say on this book because it is just another sports/enemies to lovers type of romance. The characters were okay, nothing to rave about and Nothing spectacular about any of the MCs either. No real conflicts encountered in the plot. it was just an ok story to be honest.
