This book as the first failed to delivered what I wanted. It's strange that it has a rating of 4.43.
So allow me before to address some comments on other reviews, you've got people praising the thriller part I agree. Thriller wise is quite good. Sci-Fi, Alien stuff is non-existent.
So this second book we've got the same characters of the previous book as they are trying to work amidst the conspiracies of collaborators and well non-collaborators. It's just that. The alien aspect is non-existent.
We've got two sets of aliens - Stalkers & Spectres. What's the purpose of the Stalkers? Do they work with spectres or just mindless animals? What happened to earth by the end? Who knows.
I made a video where I address some topics including these.. but sum up
if you want a fast pace thriller of cat and mouse and some action scenes yeah go. If you want a alien invasion focus on survival yeah it's not this. For those who read, if I was to tell you to remove EVERY part that has aliens and instead of Alien Invasion was a some kind of natural stuff that broke humanity apart into little feudal countries , you wouldn't have missed anything. You could even give that "give humans to spectres" to "give humans to people who wanted slaves or whores or something like that" and the story would even be the same. The alien part is non-existent.
The ending was boring and predictable. For characters where the adversatives had no payoff and not even a real stakes. You've got Crystal and our main protagonist that were injured - multiple times but never really any consequence. Other characters were quickly killed.
The only character that I had some deeper interest was Connor. Boring ending that was the only way the author had to give them an happy ending. I am sick of novels with low stakes.
Oh well... I Will continue reading Jasper novels But I am beginning to get preoccupied. 55/100
I just finished the book. 😉 IT was GREAT! I loved it. I really like these characters, although there were a few times I would have liked to kick a few of them in the butt. Connor is one of those characters I sort of liked, but him being a vulture just really made me dislike him even if he came around in the end. He wasn’t good enough for Crystal. But girls will forgive guys for anything if they love them. These are the two I would like to kick in the butt as I was reading it. the most.
I love Adam, the main character. He is a wonderful character filled with physical as well as emotional pain. He loves his family and does his best to protect them.
There were a lot of ups and downs and twists and turns I didn’t see coming, but this book kept my attention. There were evil plots, life threatening situations, traitors, love, hatred, heroes, and ... ALIENS! I loved the book. Hopefully, there will be another one in this series.
Mr Scott has evolved in his writing skills and The Muse has inspired him. Starting in the first book "Nightstalkers," he takes the reader from our current reality through an incredible journey of alien invasion. Characters are sympathetic and well developed. Resilient survivors yet very mortal. In the second part of this duology "Nightstalkers: Sanctum," the characters continue to evolve throughout the years. The action-packed page-turning journey continues to deteriorate in unexpected ways.
That said there were really many twists and turns, deftly described, that the reader doesn't expect but have a visceral impact. Very difficult to put down always keeping the reader on the edge of their seat. A well planned, written story arc. Highly recommend (unless you expect to put it down to sleep! ;)
Received as an ARC, this is an honest review. Nightstalkers: Sanctum is a grand feast of continuous high intense adventure as Adam and the rest of his crew having lost so much already are in a race to find safety; only to find themselves caught in labyrinth of harrowing secrets surrounding the Specters and their alien technology and brutal betrayals by those in government sworn to protect the dwindling presence of humanity. As the threats pound upon the group forcing each person in their own stark situations to make choices that mean life or death; when a chance to escape a failing Earth, Adam and the others take the wild chance upon the mysterious alien technology that could in slave them could be their saving grace... and starting over.
Their ranch destroyed, still plagued by Raiders, Adam and his family seek sanctuary - and settle into a life - in a neighboring town. But life is hard, and there are broader plans going on around them: the aliens, human politics, and their own daily quest to survive. There's so much going on it feels like we need another volume in this series. Questions of Adam, Crystal, Carla, and Connor’s survival abound, but also what about the rumored human enclave, Sanctum? This is a must read. Fans of jasper's work are used to alien invasion. This series is about alien invasion, and human nature. Who is more alien?
Why can’t I give 10 stars!!! Can you tell that I absolutely love this book? The extremely talented and creative wordsmith, Jasper Scott, actually surpassed my very high expectations with this one. I enjoyed the characters, the action and the suspense. I’m so looking forward to the next episode in this series! I highly recommend the entire series but, do yourself a huge favor by reading in the order written or you will miss a great deal of excitement.
Disclaimer: I received this ARC from the author and this is my honest and freely given opinion.
Following Adam, Carla, their kids and others trying to survive the Stalkers and the Specs. The infighting and infiltration between the Nightingales, the Vultures, local government groups and the Rangers. Hard to keep track of who is in which group and which group has really been telling the truth for the survival of mankind. I truly enjoyed reading this story and wishing for my favourite people to survive. Thank you, Jasper T. Scott, for creating this fantastic story to read and keep me entertained and staying in my fantasy world.
The story has a very skilled ending. Not what I expected - nor what I think the characters expected - but the book was one heck of a ride! Even though I’m still off the opinion that skipping many years is a brushed empty chasm… Jasper Scott does it with necessity in mind. Otherwise we’d read 2000+ page novels!
I do kinda hope we can catch up with this bunch of characters again, but I’m satisfied, verily so. I highly recommend reading these and all other series or standalone books he pens.
After reading Nightstalkers, I had high hopes that Sanctum would be just as entertaining. Unfortunately, this book focuses too much on side plots and not nearly enough on the war against aliens and their accomplices. There is too much focus on Crystal, and she is quite annoying as a character who continues to make stupid decisions. Also, there seems to be a plot hole towards the end when Carla is repeatedly stabbed by a stalker yet appears just fine 2 chapters later.
Jasper T Scott never ceases to amaze me. He does not disappoint with this book. I loved this story. It is the continuation from his first book - Nightstalkers: The Extinction Event.
Nightstalkers: Sanctum is full of interesting characters, action, romance, aliens, betrayal, insurrection, adventure, death and is an enjoyable read.
I highly recommend both these books. They have the "wow" factor.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest unbiased review.
Truly brilliant story nonstop action throughout. Adam, Carla, Crystal and Connor are now living in Bexar trying to keep under the radar of the Governor. Adam and Connor have joined the Rangers. But life is about to get very complicated as the mayor is planning a coup against the Governor. With multiple storylines most chapters end on a cliffhanger. Definitely recommend this book and the series
The journey that began with steaks on the grill and now Adam has watched Crystal grow up along with her love interest, Connor. It’s a tumultuous relationship given the fact that Adam killed his dad and the Earth has been invaded. In the first part of Sanctum, Adam and his people need to reestablish themselves in the Republic and settle into a new life. But after that all bets are off and we are taken on a roller coaster ride of emotions and it seems there’s no end in sight unless our heroes just give up and die. Sanctum is very hard to put down except those few moments when you want to yell and scream, What are you doing, go back?! In the end there’s only two options fight the Spectors or try to steal a ship and make a run for it.
This was a great, although VERY short, series. I would love to see more in this one, maybe a continuation of the war against the Specters, or even rescuing as many humans as can be done, because they don't have enough to scramble the gene pool. I really want and NEED to see the defeat of the Specters as only this man can write it, lol.
Jasper Scott is one of the best writers I have encountered and this story is another beauty. In one book there are many layers of adventure and life. Treacherous people, kindness, greed, giving, politics, aliens with their own hierarchy out to use and crush humanity, love and edge of the seat story telling. Five star .
What an amazing story, one that won’t let go until the end. Adam and his family are trying to get to a ship to take them to a new world. They have a long journey and who knows what will happen in between. Full of danger and action.
Seldom does a book have a good story with a good ending. I don’t know if there are additional books to follow, I believe it could be easily accomplished; however, these two books were a joy to read. Well worth your time.
This is a great series! Lots of action packed into two books. It’s the end of the world, the aliens are scary, the people are desperate but determined, and there’s even a dog! What’s not to love?!
