A writer’s imagination is limitless. The genre and subject matter a writer deals with is rooted in his world view that may be similar to those who have come before him and lead the path forward. However, a writer can make you feel a range of emotions. I felt so many emotions reading The Song of a Manchild, a turn of the century novel whimsical, bold and beautiful in its storytelling. The least heralded a writer’s work is the most groundbreaking the work turns out to be. The greatest sin for a reader is to misread a writer’s work and interject their own shortsightedness. The book will one day be sought out for its originality and belief that we can give birth to ourselves regardless of gender. It was Kelvin Warren’s belief in being reborn leaving all of the horrors of his prior life behind and embarking on a journey that many had thought was an impossible and reckless experiment threatening and upsetting the notion of why and how a child is created in born in a fascist country. I salute the author for challenging the norms with this remarkable narrative. It’s a must read!
