Beautifully written, but to me a little over long. I wasn’t as interested in reading about the strikes, increased industrialization and speculation, although I could appreciate it from a historical standpoint. Mrs. Thornton and Edith were two characters you loved to hate. I really missed Mr. Bell when he passed away. He was a good character, and an important one in the story. Margaret’s parents were very annoying, so helpless and overly dependent on her like they were the children and she was the adult. It was interesting to see how Mr. Thornton and Margaret grew and changed. I could also relate to Margaret’s feelings when she witnessed all the changes to her hometown. However, I just couldn’t warm up to Margaret. I feel the ending was cut too short and ended abruptly; would’ve liked to have seen more romance.
