B. B. Griffith writes best-selling supernatural thrillers. He is the author of the Vanished series, the Tournament series, and the Gordon Pope thrillers. He lives in Denver, CO, where he is often seen sitting on his porch staring off into the distance or wandering to and from local watering holes with his family.
Child of the Sky: Vanished by B.B. Griffith is a captivating and beautifully crafted novel that masterfully blends Navajo spiritual traditions with the pulse of modern-day life. Griffith weaves a mystery that is both grounded and otherworldly, honoring the sacred while navigating the contemporary. The spiritual elements aren’t just window dressing—they feel lived-in and deeply respected, adding profound depth to the story. It's rare to find a thriller that breathes with such cultural richness and emotional resonance. A powerful, thought-provoking read that lingers long after the last page.
Another great book by Griffith. I think this one was better than the last two books, though I enjoyed them as well. I love the native American presence in all of his books. And the fantasy of the afterlife and the input of 'others' on earthly endeavors is so well written. I love the incorporation of Navaho lore in these books and I find it fascinating to learn about their beliefs. Caroline is expecting a baby, but the baby is being too quiet. The two old Navahos are dealing with a mystical entity called The Gambler, who seems to want Caroline's child for some reason. Grant and the Walker try their best to prevent the Gambler from winning, and taking the child but the fight is harder than they think, and something has to give...
This story took both me and the characters through the wringer. I generally avoid reading books where the characters endure unrelenting hardship. Too much of this in the real world. So, how was I able to not only finish reading this story but also enjoy it? Three simple reasons: the characters, the characters, the characters. The author created beings with beating hearts and made me care. The characters were linked by unbreakable ties that made their selfless acts completely believable. Although hobbled by human weaknesses, they faced each crisis with stubborn resilience. I look forward to the next book in the series.
This is the 5th in a series of 6 books (so far). The first 4 books were engrossing. This one ... not so much so, though I managed to finish it. It lagged in several places and that was even though the subject matter was of interest to me. I DO like BB Griffith and the way he writes, but this book wasn't as 'thrilling' as the first four. For me, anyway. But that just may be me. If the subject matter interests you I highly recommend Griffith's books. He IS an excellent writer. And the fact that he references my hometown -- Albuquerque -- and Chaco Canyon (which I've visited and even camped at numerous times since 1967) causes me to not want to give up on him. Having said that, I'm looking forward to the 6th book dropping soon!
Oh the folklore is scary and fantastic and ... I guess every day is a gamble whether we want to believe it or not. I guess we all have our demons and gods. Caroline took the chip. She played the game to save it all. Kai played the game to save it all. Ben worked had to save it all. It will take time but everything comes back around. Great job. Looking forward to Book #6. Thank you for your Author's notes, very interesting.
I'm in awe at the depth of this short book, the fifth in the series. The use of the Navajo creation story and the gods of their legends is amazing as the humans in the story struggle with some of the gods with help from other gods in animal shapes. Owen, the doctor who doesn't really believe in the old legends and his partner Caroline, who believes and sees more than most people, each make a deal with the Gambler in exchange for the life of their unborn daughter.
Great book, a quick read, and an excellent story. We see characters that we have met before, but we see them in a different light and we get to know them a little bit more. I loved this book, I wish it were longer. Fortunately, there is at least one more book in this series. I am really looking forward to reading it, and seeing where it goes. I highly recommend this book, the Vanished series, and the author, B.B. Griffith.
Reading this book is like sitting on pins and needles it actually hurts because you're so wrapped up in the story and I can't believe what these people had to go through !!! This author is an incredible storyteller and I'd love to say he has a great imagination but I have a feeling he has great insight and wisdom!! This book is definitely worth reading... I love it!!!
I can't say that I did not like it but I can't that I did like it. Its a tale of good vs evil but a very different one. I have a lot of respect for native American folklore and this book is full of it. I got confused several times with characters. If you are wanting something different then this book will be it.
The ongoing struggles between good and evil continue between the two worlds on the Rez. Kai and Grant, Caroline and Owen, Walker and The Gambler are caught in a terrible battle of spiritual battles. Whi will come out ahead, or will the Rez be lost forever? Edge of your seat challenges await. Another excellent story from B.B. Griffith.
The Vanished book series is exceptionally well written with characters you fall in love with and enough excitement to keep you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves Koontz. In each book there are heat wrenching moments braided together with hope. “Nothing is lost forever.”
I love the characters, the setting and the easy flow of the story. I am always intrigued by native American story telling and the connections in their beliefs between the spiritual world and physical. As a retired nurse I liked how spot on you were in describing Caroline's job and her feelings at the hospital.
This series is really great! After the people vanish in book 4, we’re seeing the fallout from it in this book. Owen & Caroline are dealing with a crisis of their own, while the twins, Joey, Grant & Kai are fighting to not lose the entire arroyo. I’m looking forward to the next book!
Myths and legends tied in with a more recent age, imagining how the interpretation fits with now. Surprised that in the last few stories the circle doesn’t come together or assist much.
These books are SOOOOO good!!! I am so not going to like the wait until the next book. I have to have answers!! These are books you just can't put down!!!
The characters totally pulled me into the first book. I learned more about them with each book. By the end of the series, I walked their world, and they were like family. Thank you for this world B. B. Griffith.
This author continues to fascinate and entrance my reading spirit. He is a gifted writer, and this series is beyond amazing. Book #5 continues to story and contains as many harrowing and touching twists and turns as the previous 4. I'm breathlessly awaiting the next one!
These are some of the best books I've read. The thought and! research is evident. I have always felt a deep connection to the native spirituality that is so clearly part of this series. I can't wait for the next one! Thank you
I am hooked on this series. I have loved everything about it and eagerly await book 6. I did however read books 4 and 5 out of order so I’m going back to start book 4 to find out what I may have missed.
Once more Mr. Griffith spins an incredible story. Owen, Grant, Kai, Ben and Caroline find themselves in a web of Navajo lore which is mesmerizing and compelling. Every one needs to read these books
Oooh I thought the first few books were good in this series, it just kept getting better. As soon as I finished the last word I immediately thought, no it can’t end like that there has to be more. Then I saw there is a book 6. Doing the happy dance. Got to get book 6.
Another fine piece of fantasy fiction, with such endearing characters. Owen and Caroline are concerned about their unborn child. Supernatural forces are at work on the REZ after so many people have disappeared. They have to work together and gamble with their future.

On to the next one, I have got to find out what happens to Caroline! Seriously, the characters are so extraordinary and brave and likable that you feel for them. You feel with them, (even with poor dead Ben) then you cheer for them with every turn of the page.
The rains have came and don’t want to leave. The arroyo was destroyed and sits under feet of water. The fire is burning low, and they are on the last few logs. Caroline, Owen, Grant, Kia, Joey and Chaco. Can they get everything together, is there time
