For the past five decades the Texas Observer has been an essential voice in Texas culture and politics, championing honest government, civil rights, labor, and the environment, while providing a platform for many of the state’s most passionate and progressive voices. Because I'm wary of Texas politics, given the current state of their affairs, I cherry-picked what I wanted to read. I got the book because I will read anything Molly Ivins ever wrote (although the three articles chosen are definitely not among her best or most amusing) but I also read Jim Hightower and Larry McMurtry because I'm familiar with their work and appreciate them both.

Because I'm wary of Texas politics, given the current state of their affairs, I cherry-picked what I wanted to read.
