The Red Planet. To the ancients, it was the God of War. To early astronomers, it seemed to be a world much like ours. To today's space explorers, it's the next step after the Moon . . . a harsh world that we might someday bring to life.
GURPS Mars describes Mars as it's been through the ages . . . as science now believes it really is . . . as it may be someday, mankind's first colony . . . and as the wild imaginations of science fiction writers have pictured it!
Five different settings provide a Mars for every campaign, from hard science to "Attack of the Bug-Eyed Monsters."
This is one of the good GURPS books. I was, however, impressed how much we have learned about Mars since this book was published.
I have always loved Mars, and this book provided a rekindling of that. Very little of it is GURPS specific, making it a more broadly useful role-playing book.
This is just a solid, well researched sourcebook that is fun to read. Nicely covering 4 different lenses on the red planet, even if you're not using it for gaming it gives you an overview of the history of our martial explorations real and imaginary, and how Mars has been used in fiction over the years.
