Slapstick satire published in 1948, sometimes actually funny, a wry version of the truth. The subjects covered are writers, the art of writing, American youth, college, Communism, World War II, families, heroes, romance, Minnesota, and a lot more. For a book published 64 years ago it is remarkably current. Most of the observations hold true for today. But I wonder if someone a lot younger than me would think that. Being born in 1957 and having parents who were young adults in the 1940's I think I have a familiarity with the language and trends of the time that made the book understandable.
