Particularly today when Japan just signed a stimulus bill.... it's as pertinent as ever to study cultural coming and goings....... culture changes explained.
This book will make you revisit the way you think about management strategy and company structure. Does an excellent job laying out Japanese and American styles of corporate structure and management practices. Certainly makes you think about many pros and cons of current practices and ways to improve. However, it is somewhat dry (with this for substance, how could it not be) and it was a slow read, not a real gripping book, but definitely contains very valuable information.
Good overview of participative management style. Although the theory was not systematically described, the real-world examples were helpful. Best quote, "Only within the larger setting of cooperation, trust and openness will a statement on a piece of paper be brought to life" (p. 143).
Very good book about management practices in which William Ouchi blended the Japanese and American management cultures together. His study cases in the second half of the book was very interesting as well.
easy to read, dense with deep description in some areas since it's based on ouchi's study, but overall an interesting play by play comparison of american and japanese management.
