Since learning that she's been privy to episodes of her past life, Danielle Grayson has had to come terms with everything rather quickly. Granted, she's not sure as to what to make of the recent revelations. The power to see into the past disturbs her in more ways than one. More so, since the visions prove to open up more cans of worms than openly explain whatever it is she needs to do whenever she slips into her dreams. Never-the-less, she's determined to try and make sense of what she's shown.

Part of her is grateful for the fact that she's not been alone while delving into her dreams. Ben and Eric seem to be a part of her past, though she's not exactly sure how that has come about. Her dreams begin to take a more vivid turn and she soon starts to question her sanity when she's involved in a horrific car accident.

Danielle soon starts researching the secrets of her past, secrets she knows won't be to her liking. She's not sure as to why she's been gifted with the power to time travel, but will do anything to make sense of the situation itself. There's something she's been missing along the way, yet she can't quite put her finger on what that is.

In order to fully understand what's going on, she'll need to uncover the circumstances that will allow her to do just that. The flashbacks are the key. The question is, can she find the answers before fate comes running around the corner to claim the one thing she loves the most?

While this book is a part of a series, I think the way Sarah continued the storyline makes this book stand all on its own. Full of several unique twists and turns, it's a story that will keep you guessing till the very. It'll also make you shed a tear or two. It's that good!

This book picks up where As I Close My Eyes ends. Danielle has ran away to study abroad in England. She tells Ben that she needs a break to clear her head and think things through. Her memories from the past are starting to take their toll on her. After a horrific car crash, Danielle is again thrust into dreaming of the past. This time she is someone different than before. She is having flashbacks about New Orleans in the 1920's. She is now the wealthy and fabulous Elizabeth. All the people from her life as Danielle are with her again.

We learn a lot more about the life of Danielle in the second book. There are many family secrets that have been kept well hidden. It It is hard to write about this book because there is so much going on. There are many characters to keep up with. With a double storyline there is lots going on in the present and in the past. This is such a fresh and wonderful storyline that you will be thinking about the books for a while. Sarah DiCello has really done a great job. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading and reviewing her books. I look forward to many more to come. This book is even better than the first.

At the end of As I Close My Eyes, readers aren't sure about Dani and Ben's relationship. Dani decides to study abroad in England in order to take some time to clear her head. Her former life and the flashbacks to Cape May have really started to impact her. Things have changed though. Dani was involved in a bad car accident and now is experiences new flashbacks involving Elizabeth, a young girl living in New Orleans in the 1920s. Her experience in New Orleans is similar to Cape May in that many people from her current life are in these flashbacks as well. Hanging over her head the whole time is Ben's fate and whether or not she can alter that. Meanwhile, Dani still has her everyday concerns back in Georgia and to top it off, she learns some family secrets that will give her some clues about her flashbacks. As I Wake, book two in the Breaking Fate series, by Sara DiCello is a world that I loved to be lost in. Fans of historical fiction and time travel will really enjoy Dani's adventures.

One of my issues with As I Close My Eyes was the insta-love factor, but now that we've got that sorted out and I understand Dani and Ben's connection, I really enjoyed their relationship in As I Wake. I loved that Dani grew as a person in As I Wake; she learned more about her family and unearthed some secrets, specifically about her deceased father and brother.

Her best friend, Eric, is also in the picture in As I Wake as well as Dani's past in New Orleans. I found this subplot to be a nice addition to the story as I am a big fan of Eric. Don't get me wrong, Ben is great and all, but sometimes he seems too perfect. On the other hand, I do wonder about Eric and why he is always showing up wherever Dani is.

I loved Dani's flashbacks to New Orleans in the 1920s and the incorporation of the many people from her present life in these flashbacks. Elizabeth is a fun character and I was completely absorbed in her story. I also enjoyed that Dani had to piece together the various clues from her flashbacks. Dani starts to question that perhaps there is meaning to all of this after all? I also really liked how DiCello included a character from her Cape May memories in New Orleans--it definitely took me by surprise!

It's a rare thing for me to say that I enjoyed book two in a series more than book one; however, that is the case with As I Wake. I hope Sarah DiCello is working on book three, because I can't wait to see what is in store for Dani next!

Background: As I Wake picks up where the story left off in As I Close My Eyes, Dani is still having her dreams, only now she is living a different past. We have left Cape May and are now in 1920's New Orleans. Dani is trying to figure out why she continues to have these dreams and what they are trying to tell her.

Review: There may be some spoilers to book one, so please be aware as you continue reading. I found book 2 a little better than book 1 in this series, I was used to the instant love thing already which made it an easier read than the first. Danielle is starting to figure out what her dreams mean and why she is having them and I like the explanation rather than just the dreams like in book 1. I enjoyed the growing relationship between Dani and Eric as well as Dani finding out more about her father and brother through herself. I think the character development in As I Wake was stronger than in book 1.

I again had a few dislikes, mostly with common sense issues of the characters, like ...yes it is fine to take a parents car and tell them you are going an hour away and then take an 8 hour trip, and yes lighting candles in a dusty bookstore is a GREAT idea (can you hear the sarcasm as I type?). I would love to see how the story ends, it seems like as the story progresses the author does a better job of fixing some of these issues little by little, but we will see.

This read does have some steamy bits and is more of a romance than anything. I think that a lot of people will enjoy the book regardless of these issues, it was a quick and easy read and I was able to fly through it.

I was very intrigued by the whole format and writing style of her first book. This second novel by Author DiCello is even better. I won't delve into spoilers here; suffice it to say the overall story arc expands in scope and quality. Future novels should be even more promising if this second novel is any indication.

I highly recommend this book for readers of all genres.

I thought the first one was good, but this was AMAZING! Sarah really managed to deliver an action filled and romantic story within the pages of this one. And that ending?! It had me bitting my nails up until the last sentence! I'm really hoping there will be a third one. :)

I was given this book by the author for an honest review.

Best Part of the book: This picks where "As I Close My Eyes" ends, I like that. Even though this has the same "concept" as Book 1, it is a little bit different. Danielle and Ben are "working" on their realtionship; however, she is still having dreams. The difference is its a different time and era than book 1. I actually liked this one better. Although, it seems a bit better Danielle is now beginning to piece together her family secrets. That was interesting!

Not so great about the book: Same as before, it seems a little confusing when she goes from "dream world" to "real world" and this time there was more "storylines". What I mean by that is: there was her past secrets, the romance between her and Ben and the other characters that were introduced.

Overall, it was good!

Sarah DiCello is the daughter-in-law of one of my best friends in Pennsylvania. This was her second novel. If you read the first, you have to read the second. Just because.
