Summer 2018 has been copious cucumbers in our home garden, in fact, cucumbers have been the main harvest from our side garden. What to do with all those cucumbers; freezer pickles can only take one so far. I turned to this cookbook, which joined my collection about 15 years ago. Page 123 offered Saute of Cucumbers in Chive and Dill Cream. Perfect!
Name an ingredient and this book offers an overview on storage, preparation, and a recipe or two. Organized around: pantry; veggies & herbs; seafood; poultry; meat; pasta, grains and beans; fruit; and the grill. It's an excellent reference when you are stumped on what to do with a plethora of garden harvests or a piece of seafood you picked up at the grocery.
I highly recommend this for anyone going from heating up food to true cooking.
This book offers a lot of hints and tips as far as cooking is concerned, it's broken down into chapters by the type of food (i.e. meat, pasta, etc) and then in each chapter it's broken down further by the specific food (i.e. chicken, foul, veil, etc.) I liked how easy it was to use the index or the section headings to find the information I was looking for, it was very easy to navigate. There were certain parts where it would have been useful to include pictures (I still can't figure out how to cut up an artichoke correctly) but other than that I thought it was good information for a novice cook like myself. Be forewarned that this book really only covers cooking (as stated in the intro), if you're looking for information on baking this is the wrong book to pick up.
This encyclopedic reference to all manner of cooking tips gives the reader a vast, random assortment of cooking tips and advice. While some of the advice seems relatively obscure, the techniques are effective.
Excellent cooking reference book. Everything you want to know about how to buy, use, and store spices, fruits, veggies, meat, poultry, etc. So many useful tips plus recipes
