Here is the first book to explore the loss of a pet from a broad, spiritual perspective. It addresses the grieving process, the pros and cons of euthanasia, and the logistics of making final arrangements. Find out the psychological facts about the human-animal bond, and learn how to cope with the initial shock of your loss and the following anger, guilt and sadness. Various religious beliefs are presented, with a focus on pagan funeral rituals and meditations.
Some parts are sort of corny and too "New Agey" for me, but overall I did find this to be an invaluable resource when I lost some of my animal companions. It's hard to find books about grief and specifically pet loss that aren't based in Christianity- so this is a great book in times of need for those of us that aren't Christian.
Though this book was too neo-pagan for me to find useful, the beginning half of the book is compassionately written and displays deep understanding of grief from pet loss. There are rituals from the middle of the book onward which are possibly at least adaptable to commemorate a pet's passing. The author's style is warm and sympathetic without being cloying.
