No good deed goes unpunished. After risking her life to defeat Wonderland’s treacherous queen and break her curse, Alice thought the rightful heir would be wearing the crown — and she’d be home by now.
It’s been a long time since she could trust a garden hedge to stay put or get a moment’s peace away from the incessant chatter of the local fauna.
But what she didn’t know is that breaking the Queen’s curse triggered a clever trap that has tied Alice to the Prince’s future. Now, she faces an impossible choice—marry a man who doesn’t love her or enter the labyrinth to win back his throne.
And if she waits too long to decide, she’ll die.
Tired of being a pawn on the political chessboard of a world that isn’t her own, Alice decides to change the game and play by her own rules. But destiny is determined to get what it wants — and destroy anyone who stands in its path.
Join Alice on a new adventure in Jabberwock’s Champion, the second book of the Looking Glass Chronicles — a fairytale retelling of Alice in Wonderland for YA readers.
The first book in this series was already a lot of fun and this book was also quite entertaining. We follow quite a few different characters and since they're separated for most of the book and having their own challenges and storyline, it's really interesting. I also love knowing what all these characters feel, even if they're not ready to admit everything to the others yet. The book also has a nice Wonderland vibe. The challenges in the labyrinth were lovely, but I also loved the side quite of our favourite prince and princess. I'm already really curious about the next book!
A wonderful sequel! After ending the curse, Alice is now tied to the prince thanks to a spell that was linked to the curse once broken, and now she either has to marry him or enter into a competition to become his new champion, and she has to do this quickly before the spell ends her life. Alice and the prince do not want to marry each other, but the prince thinks it’s the best thing while Alice believes she can become the next champion. So she enters the labyrinth as well as the Queen’s brother to beat him and become the champion.
I love it when the sequel is just as good or even better than the first book! This one has more of the lovely banter we see between Chess and Alice, we get to learn even more about Citrine(she’s so bookish I love it!) and her relationship with the Prince, the romances are just such wonderful slow burns, the twists are great and I love the quirkiness in this world!
I loved the adventure in this one and seeing how Alice and Chess work so well together! Those two are my everything 🥰😭 I love them so so much! I’m rooting for them and for Zander and Citrine now! And now I don’t know how long I have to wait for the next book because that ending! I really need it soon! I will definitely be rereading this series over and over again and is in my top five favorite series ever read!
If you love Alice in Wonderland, and retellings, then you have got to read this series! I received a free digital copy to read. All thoughts and opinions are my own. All the stars!
This story definitely keeps getting better and better. I loved the story from the start And now with this latest book. I’m even more excited. absolutely adore and love everything Alice In Wonderland. I’m totally fascinated by it all.
This version there are many things new and different for me, Which makes it even more appealing and interesting. The way the author writes makes this story so easy and fun to read. Very enjoyable and entertaining. I couldn’t stop once I started.
As I kept reading I couldn’t help but see it all play out as if I was watching a movie. This would make such an awesome movie by the way! I’d totally watch it!
I am totally shipping Chess & Alice. They give me all the feels. This story kept surprising me with every twist and turn along the way! what a roller coaster ride! I loved every second of it. And that ending leaves me anxious for the next book already! Wish I could already know what happens next! Can’t wait!
This was a very strong sequel, following the first great novel in this twisted version of Wonderland. I love how many elements are similar to the tales I obsessively read growing up, but still feel amazingly new in Bowman’s novels. The plot takes readers on a dangerous journey with just enough side bits to keep anyone on their toes and just enough romantic tension to keep the romance reader in me wholeheartedly screaming, “just kiss already!!” in the back of my brain. Alice’s determination and kindness make her the best kind of character to root for and with the little twists at the end, I cannot wait to see how she tackles what’s undoubtedly coming in the third book!!
I liked this book even more than the first one! The labyrinth (and everything that happened in there) was super interesting, and I loved the mini-romance in this book.
The twist at the end was really good too. I'm not going to discuss it, but it's good. Trust me.
LATE REVIEW! First, i've said this many times before i love when a story continues into the next book like right on from the sentence of the previous book. Second, i love when sequels go into more depth with the story and end up being better than the first, but i also love when all books end up being equally amazing. Third, seeing new sides of our main characters is refreshing to read, someone who had a whole 180 behavior (spoiler) is Zander the Red Prince and former Jabberwock. I hated him and at the same time i kinda understood his behavior and i say kinda because he still makes his own decisions and what not. In this we see Alice go through the labyrinth as Zander's champion against the Red Queen's brother and interestingly enough Chess joins as her partner which is against the rules but apparently there was a loophole. Throughout the labyrinth we learn about Alice's past and how that helps her win the labyrinth. Also, i love me PLOT TWISTS! I can't wait for this summer when the 3rd book comes out. 10/10
Jabberwock's Champion by R.V. Bowman(Looking Glass Chronicles #2) is a very enjoyable book with a lot of action and a few surprises. In this book after risking her life to defeat Wonderland's treacherous queen and break her curse Alice thought the rightful heir would be wearing the crown. What she didn't know is breaking the curse triggered a trap. Great book and I am looking forward to the next book.
Alice and Chess are soooooo cute! This series needs a huge fandom! Wickle calling Chess Alice's mate though! Wickle knew, yes he did. Loved it! I read it in a day!!!! I skipped breakfast bc I couldn't put it down!!!!
