Rate this book
Key Buildings of the Twentieth Plans, Sections, and Elevations features 106 of the most significant and influential buildings of the twentieth century, including classic works by such seminal architects as Le Corbusier, Frank Lloyd Wright, Mies van der Rohe, and Alvar Aalto, as well as those by more recent masters, such as Norman Foster, Frank Gehry, and Rem Koolhaas. All of these have been specially drawn for this book and are based on the most up-to-date information and sources. The concise accompanying text explains the important architectural features of each building and the influences it shows or generated; one or two full-color images offer exterior and/or interior views. Cross-references to other buildings highlight the various connections between the key buildings. The illustrated introduction gives a brief overview of the development of architecture in the twentieth century, paying particular attention to issues of spatial organization. A bibliography provides further reading about the architects and the buildings discussed. The quality and number of line drawings allow the buildings to be understood in detail and make this book indispensable for all students of modern architecture. As an added bonus, the book includes a CD-ROM containing digital files of all drawings. Includes CD-ROM (PC and Mac compatible).

151118: good reproductions, clear plans, elevations, sites, short descriptions of buildings, schools, individual architects... with all the positives and negatives of most art books. beautiful to look at if you already know some architecture, large pictures, brief but precise nonfiction. also big, heavy, arbitrary in chronological ordering, something to skim through and stop at interesting buildings, but you will probably not learn anything new beyond details of this building or that building. do not (like some people... me) feel you have to read every page. this is far too general for students or professionals in architecture. this is an advanced coffee table book...

I loved getting to know such buildings to the smaller detail. Although I would have been content with more pictures.
