Katsura Hoshino ((星野 桂 Hoshino Katsura) was born on April 21, 1980, in Shiga Prefecture, Japan, as the younger of fraternal twin girls and the second of three children. She drew her first manga at twenty-one. In 1998, Hoshino moved to Tokyo. She dreamed of bringing her mother to the city and was able to in 2006.
She made her debut with her comics in July 2003 with the publication of her first manga series Continue and is known for her work, D.Gray-man, which began serialization in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump in May 2004.
It wasn't all that bad but I didn't really like it. Allen is under suspicion (I'm sure that whoever is reading this right now, has read the book this late in the series, but in case you have not, SPOILERS) and Lenalee is quikly becoming the tragic heroine. Now that there is a plausible reason for Allen to be a "bad guy", I really want him to be one. This is a very cheesy manga under a disguise and Allen turning bad will spice it up a little bit. As for Lenalee, I don't know what to say.
I hate her. With all my heart.
Her first impression, the very first time I read this, I as like eh, whatever, but as the books progressed, I just started to hate her. Tragic Heroine. And a bad one at that.
The thing that really brightens up the day is General Cross.
Enough said.
My favorite character right after Kanda.
Anyhoo, the art. I'll admit that she is getting better but all the pannels and text bubbles are really hard to figure out. The characters themselves are maturing but the speech bubbles are really confusing. I can't tell who is speaking most of the time.
The humor, also. I am reading throught it all and think, really? REALLY?
Not fun. Hopefully it will get better and I hope to see more of Road.
Gee, what are the chances that the Nazi-looking guy is evil? *sarcasm*
I debated about rating this volume so high, but I thought it was a pretty funny volume, including where ! I'm liking Lavi a lot more than I used to, but not Lenalee; she was all whiney when she still possessed her Innocence, now she's a damsel in distress that everyone fawns over. Not liking her at all. I don't really mind her in the anime, though (so far, anyway).
The battle is finally over and I'm glad the manga is giving me some space to breathe. Phew the battle were just too intense to handle.
This volumes answered some of confusing question we got, but the author brilliantly play it well by offering more questions. Its like one question is being answered, but the answer offers more puzzles to put it together. Interesting.
Now I forgot how much I hate this one guy, who give a big trauma toward Lenalee and possibly will be even more annoying in the next volumes. He's the reason why Allen is under suspicion now (but kudos to him for able to guess all General Cross plan sheesh).
P/s: The cover is gorgeous, General Cross look so cool there
Cross finally showed up and did not disapoint. I love how the end of this arc open more doors than it closes? Like, I have way more questions now than I had at the beginnin of this countdown. I did love how we got to breath a little in the moddle. But then the end just brought the tension back up in two pages. This serie is impossible to put down.
Something is going on with Allen and I MUST KNOW ALL THE REASONS. I NEED ANSWERS, LIKE YESTERDAY. And, of course, what does everything have to end on a cliffhanger?!
years ago i stopped at this volume cause the fifteenth volume wasn’t out yet. finally i can continue it but holy shit this series doesn’t give you time to breath
4/5 Some questions are answered after that confusing 13th volume. Not all questions but some. This volume kinda is a break and set up for the next story arc. I enjoyed that the pace relaxed a bit for awhile. The cast has been fighting nonstop for soo many volumes now that it was getting hard to accept that they were pushing on. Covers not my favorite but then again I’m not very fond of Cross Marion’ character design. Also introduced to a good guy that looks remarkable like Hitler...
Character 4 | Setting 5| Art 4| Plot 3.5 | Enjoyment 4
Rating: 4.1
This volume continues from Cross's grand entranece! We get to see Maria in action as well as Allen is the chosen pianist, oh the plot thickens.
We also get introduced to DGM hitler. I hate this man, he is what is wrong with the Black Order. I doubt anyone likes this dick(Maybe Link does, but who knows)
I don't really have a lot to say about this volume as it was mostly Allen feeling realizations of his past so that was nice to see.
Finally! A good, solid volume that's mostly plot and not so much constant battling! I look forward to this inquisitor from the Pope getting what's coming to him. He's very obviously bad news. We're also learning a lot about how the innocence is changing on it's own in the various exorcists. Definitely a good volume for driving the plot forward. We also finally get to see a lot of the minor characters interacting with one another to explore and learn about the ark.
I found this volume really different from anything that I expected. I found the battle tensions very well done and having the end of the arch end with Allen revealing that he, unknown to him, was able to play the piano the right way to stop the egg from disappearing was a surprise. Yet the reaction of all of this was just very interesting too. Yet this seems to be setting more mysteries later on. Which I find nothing but shock as the higher ups discuss what to do with him.
All kinds of potential conspiracy stuff in this volume. Allen suddenly displays a number of abilities that legitimately put him in the crosshairs of a suspicious central office of the Black Order. It's clear he's not at fault, but Marian clearly knows a lot more about Allen--and a number of other things then he's letting on.
While this volume isn’t terrible, I can see a huge downfall in quality. Most of the action scenes are messy and confusing, and the dialogue is worse. When there are so many characters present and so many different speech bubbles you can barely tell who’s talking. I guess the story is decent enough, but it’s kind of a drastic change compared to the other volumes.
This was a nice little break from the nonstop action of the last few volumes. Allen & the others are able to wrest control of the Ark. But in doing so, there are some mysteries and questions that arise about Allen's past, and why exactly Cross took him as a pupil. The peace doesn't last for long though, as the novel ends with the Early trying to steal back the Ark.
Complicated and more complicated. Not that I mind. At all. What an interesting turn the arc takes once Allen Walker starts to play the piano. Somehow he was able to play a familiar tune know to Mana and himself, bringing back a lot of what Allen feared was lost. He also brought on himself a frightening amount of attention within the Order itself. This attention is only too familar to Lenalee who is finally moving forward as a character even if she’s still unable to use her Innocence. That Innocence appears to be evolving, exciting some interesting speculation about Innocence itself. Much of the humor felt contrived, but Komui and Bak found themselves in the complicated position of being moral voices within the Order while coping with their superiors. One of those superiors, Rouvelier has an unnverving likeness to Hitler. Maybe it’s the mustache. Johnny’s loyalty to Allen was quite touching. Equally intriguing hints about Tyki Mikk were dropped by the Earl as to what Allen did to him. Not to mention the Ark itself arouses intriguing speculation about the Earl himself. Not that the Noah are about to let the Order keep on speculating. Most intriguing of all is Allen’s mysterious shadow he picked up in the room with the piano, the way it acts as his reflection, stalking him. All of this was beautifully expresed in the artwork. I quite enjoyed the shift away from action to mystery. Not that it looks like it’s going to last.
General Cross's arrival on the ark had made success sure, until the appearance of the Earl throws things back into jeopardy. The Earl's plan to use data from this disintegrating ark to build a new one seems unstoppable. The exorcists are exhausted and there seems to be little chance left of them leaving the ark alive, but Cross is full of secrets. When he sends Allen to a mysteriously silent room on the ark, occupied by only a piano and a ghost in Allen's reflection, Allen is astonished to find that not only can he read the cryptic musical score, but he can also play, a feat which saves them and pulls the ark from the Earl's grasp.
But back at headquarters, this new ability and their miraculous escape may have alarming implications, as hinted by Inspector Rouvelier, who is now leading an investigation of the recent events.

How interesting! So...just what is Allen, then? Is he even human after all? Hoshino answers some questions in this volume, yet raises even more mysteries to be solved as the series progresses. What will the Millennium Earl and the Noah do now that General Cross seems to have thwarted them from getting the Akuma Factory from the Ark? And the military portion of the Black Order has decided to take the war to the Millennium Earl. It's too long to wait on VIZ's translation of the series, just when the story's getting so good!
