Forgiveness is a virtue that author Everett L.Worthington Jr. has advocated throughout his career as a counselor and psychologist. In this book, he explains the paradoxical power of forgiveness through his personal and professional experiences andthrough the wisdom of others. The paradox is that in forgiving for the well-being of others, we actually receive tremendous benefits for ourselves in terms of physical and mental health. This book treats forgiveness as a quest to find the treasure of restored relationships, personal peace, and even health, which has often become buried in relational harms, betrayals, and injustices. Worthington shows how one begins the quest, prepares the self for the rigors of the search, and makes the journey. In the process, he describes the resources and supports needed. He also discusses how enemies can continue to betray and how unruly angry emotions can arise but can be tamed by forgiving. Worthington shows readers the map to forgiveness using methods such as his time-tested and research-supported method of REACH, a five-step process of forgiving."The Power of Forgiving" will inspire people to use forgiveness. It will show how forgiving is a transforming process that will enrich relationships and empower people to improve their own lives.
I feel like this author was trying to explain forgiveness either as though no one had ever heard of it or as though everyone was very indisposed toward forgiveness and thought it no fun at all--so he tried to market it as a... treasure hunt? Also, a twelve-year-old could write this (on a number of levels).
My stars are for the quotes written on the left leaf of the book. All the quotes are true, fact and justifies the significance of forgiving people for ourselves. Forgiving is essential as its easy to travel light.
This little book is filled with nuggets of wisdom from the author and others (every left-sided page is a quote) about forgiveness. I was inspired and motivated by this overview of the advantages of forgiving, the damage not forgiving can do, and the personal tales.
This not a map to forgiveness. It is a rough summary with the REACH process listed in a few sentences in the final chapter. If you need a map, try one of the other references from the bibliography.
This book is pretty good. It's not groundbreaking--I'd say most people know forgiveness is good for you and others. It does have some practical advice and helpful quotes and thoughts that can motivate you to forgive. Important for everyone.
"Силата на прошката" от сериите Познай себе си. Хубаво е да се прости, иначе омразата, негодуванието и лошите чувства унищожават душата на човек. Прошката не означава да забравиш, а да престанеш да мислиш за случилото се постоянно, за да можеш да продължиш напред.
