One Rainy Day

Rate this book
Poppy Meadows has a face of rare beauty. Like most other nineteen-year-olds, she enjoys life. And, oh, how she loves to dance! The only blot on her happiness is her dreadful boss in the office where she works... One rainy day, Poppy is delivering a letter when she fails to notice two people approaching and is knocked to the ground. The couple are full of apologies but Poppy brushes aside the young man's offer to replace her ruined raincoat. As she walks away with her head held high, Andrew Wilkie-Brook says to his sister Charlotte, 'I wish she'd let me help, but she wouldn't listen to me.' Someone is listening, however, and her name is Fate...

a good realistic read really enjoyed this
Poppy Meadows lives with her widowed mother and brother. she enjoys life but loves dancing the only cloud on the horizon is the boss she works for who is horrible.
one rainy day Poppy delivers a letter to Castle Street not noticing two people bouncing towards her knocking her to the ground. though they apologise and offer to replace the coat she brushes aside their concerns. it is clear the man is a toff as he walks away he says to his sister i wish shed let me help but she would not listen. she might not but fate was listening.

I personally loved this book but the only thing that wasn’t my favourite was that there was long chapters with small words but besides that I loved it especially the aesthetic that I pictured: cute diner on the corner, dancing halls, old London love story, etc.

This was a lovely story and I really felt like I knew the characters, it just lacked a bit of excitement for me.

With both the face of an angel and the brains of a smart, well rounded girl, one would think Poppy Meadows would picked up easily. However, her strong determination to work her way up the ladder is not what most men were interested in in the mid 1900's, not to mention the fact that she was helping her widowed mother pay her essentials every month. One rainy day though, fate steps in for Poppy as she finds herself pumping into a stranger, who turns into the man she had been waiting for. This well entertaining book shows that even in the hard cruel world, love always finds its way to the unexpected for-front of our lives.
