What a wonderful behind the scenes look at the late Princess Margaret’s life. It’s a brief snap shot of her time between her first love, Peter Townsend, and her marriage to Anthony Armstrong Jones. The British Royal Family are born into a fishbowl. Much of their life is lived in public. This book was written by someone who was her personal Footman at that time.

He is clearly smitten with her but manages to give a clear eyed view of her. Her temperament, her humor, her work ethic, and that tender side of finding love again after being forced to give it up before. Showing how life worked then is also nicely done. It takes more than one person to help a working royal and he gives others their due credit.

It is really like reading a snapshot out of time. No pun intended since she was an avid amateur photographer and he was a very good professional one. The world has changed much since the year this all took place. The Royal rules and pompous advisers don’t seem to be as prevalent now with the Royal Family. If they had been, we never would have had Princess Kate.

Well worth finding if you are interested in Royal life or how those grand estate houses run.
