At 34, the beautiful Maxine Shaw thrives in her current position as a federal parole officer. Known throughout countless federal correctional facilities for violating and sending parolees from her caseload back to prison, she's the most surprised when she lets her guard down for Seth. The confident, ruthless, Seth Richardson sets his sights on Maxine, who is instantly turned on by his swagger. The consequences she would face from her employer if she ever got caught dating a parolee is alluring. They begin a tumultuous, secretive relationship that has restrictions. Knowing that Maxine has aspirations of owning a small business, Seth convinces her to ignore his drug-hustling in order to get her the start-up money. Everything seems to be going according to plan until Maxine finds out that Seth has a major distraction in his life Samantha Mitchell. Samantha, who happens to be Seth's codefendant and 'ride or die' chick, has just come home from serving jail time in a women's federal camp. As both women compete for Seth's love and affection a sticky situation unfolds. Is Maxine cunning enough to outsmart Samantha and take her man for good? Or will Samantha's street-savviness outwit the educated Maxine?
Kiki Swinson was born and raised in Portsmouth, Virginia. She discovered her flair for writing after completing her first novel, Mad Shambles, while serving a five-year sentence at a federal prison. After being released in December 1996, Kiki later went on to self-publish Mad Shambles. Her passion for writing didn't stop there. Writing feverishly into the wee hours of the night, she completed her second novel, Wifey, which was published by Melodrama Publishing. After the success of Wifey, Kiki penned the sequels I'm Still Wifey and Life After Wifey, as well as The Candy Shop and A Sticky Situation.
I just could not get into this book. The characters were just so juvenile. Maxine was supposed to have it all together, but she was just so stupid when it came to Seth. In the beginning she seemed like she had everything together, but as the book when on she just turned into a total nut case. Seth, I just could not bring myself to like him at all. There was just nothing redeeming about his character. Samantha, I really didn't expect her to do what she did in the end. All in all this book was just not good. The drug selling aspect of it was mediocre, the sex scenes were sub par and essentially non existent. I'd say definitely skip this one.
My Spring Break Read. (April 11 and finished April 15)
Great book here it toally was a stitcky situation in this book. I was totally blown away at the end wouldn't have never thought it.
But, read most of all of Kiki Swinson's books and this one I have to say was my best by her yet. Keep doing your thang.
Seth sleeping with his P O officer Maxine they had they little thing goining on but, Seth han other plans to get back with his main girl Sam that was locked up doing time for him.
Maxine gets very jealous and wants Seth all to herself 24 hours a day if she only could. Seth has plans to go back to selling drugs for his guy Mike that he meet in jail. Seth don't want to do a 9 to 5 job like Maxine wants him to do.
All hell brakes lose when Seth finds out that Mike tried to kill him and rob him. So Seth set it up to get back at Mike but, what Seth didn't know is that Mike has other plans and it invlves Sam.
Sam is a bad "B" if you ask me she wasn't stupid at all. She totally had things uncontrol even when she knew that Seth was sleeping with Maxine and other women.
Overall great great great book. The characters was like a love and hate kind of thing. Maxine was so controlling when it came to Seth but, I guess that was her way of loving him.
From the title of this book I didn't think that this would be about anything "positive". To say the least it wasn't positive at all. This book did have me anticiapted to turn the page to find out what would happen next. It even had a twist that I didn't expect!
The book started off fillinf me in about a a parole officer that was in love with her parolee. That piece of information brought a sense of shock over me. Who in their right mind would risk their job? I guess love makes you do crazy things. They even lived together, it somewhat seemed unreal.
The funny thing about this book was how the female parole officer tried so hard to keep their relationship a secret. One of her co-workers came over her house and saw a picture of the two (parole officer and parolee); which lead to questioning. Soon she made up many lies when people came close to summing up the truth between the two.
I found the parole officer to be very stupid. She told her boyfriend (parolee) not to sell drugs; he decided not only to sell drugs but to cheat on her. She still stayed with him but threatened to turn him in. I bet you're wondering if she ever turned him in? Not telling!!
The twist in the story was that a female character in the book which so happened to be the parolee's "real girlfriend" that took the wrap and did jail time for him. Her time in jail was soon to be over; she would be set free. The only thing that everybody doesn't know was that she had a couple tricks up her sleeve! Never ever underestimate a crazy woman!
In Conclusion, over all I believe the author Kiki Swinson did an "ok" job on this book. Although she did a good job with the title, which would draw people in. I would recommend this book to people who like to read Urban African American books.

If this had been the first book I'd ready by this author , I wouldn't read another, but fortunately I had the chance to read Keeping My Enemies Close in Sleeping With The Enemy...So needless to say this one fell WAAAY short I only read a couple of chapters because I just couldnt get into it. It started out very slow and as it went on it became very predicable. Ended up scanning through the rest...
The situation did get sticky but things didn't come together until the end. I wanted to knock Maxine, the probation officer, upside the head...cause who gets involved with a client? Seth was a smart thug but he trusted the wrong chick. A Sticky Situation did make me want to read some more from Kiki Swinson...
So far it's great. I just hope I am reading in the rt order . So I'm trying to research know to see what order. I'm welling to If I have to. To start over an be in the rt order if anyone happen to read my commits pleas feel free to educate me. Thanks
I don't know about everyone else but I liked this book... this book been on my want to read list then I finally found it you don't know how excited I was. The cover and story always stuck to me the story was realistic and had characters omg you might've came across a time or two I kept wondering what would happen next so I stayed up all night nursing my son to see what would be the outcome .... Seth thought he was ahead of the game then BOOM!!!! MAXINE took controlling to a whole new level I really couldn't stand her ass.... if there's a part 2 I'm already looking for it lol ....
Oooooo Chile that ending caught me sooo off guard was not expecting that. Took me longer than usual to read this book because it start off slow and boring to me but it’s definitely a good read
This book is a really good book. I liked this book because it had a lot of drama and suspense. I was so use to reading books that had normal plots;I could predict the ending of this book it was different i had no idea how it was going to end and once i found out i was totally shocked. I recommend this book to anyone who loves thrillers and adventure and a book that you can relate to.
I haven't been a fan of KiKi Swinson, but the last two books I read by her have been amazing. I just finished this book and I couldn't put it down. I believe there is also a sequel. The book was non-stop drama from the very beginning. There was never a dull moment. Nice little twist at the end.
This book was great, a very good read for me. I could not put it down once I started reading, it had my attention from the very first paragraph. I will definitely check out more from this author and see what else she has to offer.
This book was funny. Maxine worked on my nerves but glad Seth fixed her in the end. Good storyline. Loved how she incorporated past characters from past books such as Nicole and Faith. Glad Faith got help in the end. Samantha fixed Seth in the end. He never saw that coming.
This is the 2nd book in a row I have read from this author, still not super impressed. It ended really good, in a unexpected way. im not giving up on the author because I hear to many good things. I will give it another try in the near future
