Jesus' resurrection is a big deal—but do we fully realize its significance for us? It is only through Jesus' resurrection from the dead that we have hope of salvation and union with Christ, and one day we will be resurrected and united with him forever. This magnificent hope can accompany us joyfully into the world to come.
Dr. Joel R. Beeke serves as President and Professor of Systematic Theology, Church History, and Homiletics at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary. He has been in the ministry since 1978 and has served as a pastor of his current church, Heritage Reformed Congregation, since 1986. He is also editor of the Banner of Sovereign Grace Truth, editorial director of Reformation Heritage Books, president of Inheritance Publishers, and vice-president of the Dutch Reformed Translation Society. He has written, co-authored, or edited fifty books and contributed over fifteen hundred articles to Reformed books, journals, periodicals, and encyclopedias. His Ph.D. (1988) from Westminster Theological Seminary is in Reformation and Post-Reformation Theology. He is frequently called upon to lecture at Reformed seminaries and to speak at conferences around the world. He and his wife, Mary, have three children: Calvin, Esther, and Lydia.
Beeke does a great job going over what is ressurection and how it is the current and future hope of all believers and a reality for all people. This book is encouraging, challenging and gives the reader a clear articulation of the hope we have only in Jesus Christ.
I received a review copy of this booklet from the publisher.
Excellent, short treatment of the resurrection hope we have as Christians! Beeke knows doctrine and church history, and he wields them well in the service of giving the reader a short theology of the doctrine of Resurrection. Helpful and accessible!
This little booklet is essentially an overview of I Corinthians 15. Beeke looks at the importance of the resurrection as it relates to Christianity (if Christ is not raised, then Christianity is definitely a lie). While this is mainly an overview of the theology of the resurrection (both Christ’s resurrection as well as the resurrection of everyone at Christ’s second coming), there are also practical points of application regarding how this affects our living today while we await the second coming of Christ.
