Since first publishing in January 1996, Lori Foster has become a USA Today, Publisher’s Weekly and New York Times bestselling author. This is a friends-to-lovers story about a widow who goes to her family vacation home in hopes of moving on from past anger and grief over the loss of her cheating, deceased husband and to have a fling to slake her loneliness and yearning. When her longtime friend (and her husband’s best friend) Bram insists on being the only man to give her what she needs, Lucy finds herself in a hot, passionate, emotion-filled affair that shakes the foundation of their relationship, especially when Bram wants and demands everything from her. I’ve heard great things about author Lori Foster, but this was my first read by her. It’s a sexy story and I liked it, but I think it’s one of those that really needed a bit more length to fully develop. Still, it deserves a high rating for luscious, sexy, stud-on-a-stick-with-size, Bram if for no other reason! 4 ½ stars!
Who doesn't love 4 short steamy stories in one?!?!
Luring Lucy by: Lori Foster Bram could get any woman he wanted but instead he was his eyes and heart set one woman, that woman's name is Lucy, a widow with 2 kids
This story is one of my favourites. Just love the chemistry Bram and Lucy share. just sad how shirt this story is, this story deserves more!!!
Truth Or Dare by: Laura Bradley
Who doesn't love a hardcore bullrider?! This story follows a undercover PI named Shay McIntyre who is investigating some serious mysterious incidents at a rodeo, only to find herself playing with the biggest bull of them all, and his name is Luke Wider.
This story is another one my favourite of mine. Towards the end, it had me at the edge of my seat.
Compromised by Gayle Callen This story follows a rich young lady, who is forced to marry. only to finally realize and come to her senses that she really does love her husband who shes was forced to marry, and is willing to do anything and everything it takes to be with him.
cute story, cute ending.
Treading Dangerous Waters by: Victoria Marquez Who knew you could actually fall inlove with some in matter of a few days? This story follows a young lady, who is willing to go all out to help her aunt and her future uncle, only to find herself falling inlove with someone unexpectedly.
another cute story!
OVERALL, I give this book 5 stars. 4 cute stories that are well written, and that will keep you craving for more! It will leave you "Hot And Bothered" ;)
This is a good, summer collection of four steamy stories. Those of you who know me, know that I'm not a fan of anthologies, but will read them on occasion. Each story is fairly short, so you get what I call quickie romances.
Luring Lucy - Lori Foster - 2.5/5 - This was a hot story! More mature characters, both of them are around 40. Lucy is a widow, but 4 years ago she caught her husband with a much younger woman. Bram is their family friend and has been lusting after Lucy for 17 years. I love how he convinces her she's desirable, how he respects her and I admit, as painful as it is, the pain he has felt while watching her with his best friend was pretty poignant and made him all that much sexier in my eyes. What I REALLY struggled with, and the reason this isn't rated higher, is the fact that he was a manwhore while "in love" with Lucy. She's been single for four years and that hasn't stopped him from going out and having meaningless sex (which he describes as empty pleasure) with other women. And yet, he gets all pissy and possessive when she considers doing the same, because she belongs to him. Nice double standard. And the fact that it's so easy for her to get over that fact (even though it bothers her), especially in light of her husband's affair...since Bram also tends to have sex with younger women. It's not an insurmountable obstacle by any means, but I would think it might take some time to trust. As sexy as this was, I could not get past always thinking about this and wondering if his particular view towards sex, as not really meaning anything with other women, wasn't a possible rationale for future indiscretions. God forbid she should be unable to have sex for a period of time and that man, not being a monk, may seek empty pleasure.
Truth or Dare - Laura Bradley - 4/5 - Another hot story! (Appropriate that this is titled Hot and Bothered then, isn't it?) This one centers around Cowboys and Rodeo Riders. Both the H & h are very independent and the black sheep of their respective families. Luke is very embittered, keeping his secret and having a very low opinion of himself - therefore risking his life more than he should. Shay is an investigator disguised as a reporter trying to find a saboteur. She seems to be a lot more confident and not susceptible to Luke's bullshit, although she is susceptible to lust. They experience insta-love, but it all feels possible to me...I wasn't thinking that it was way too fast for them to be considering compromise. I think there was just enough resistance. So, despite my initial dislike of Luke actually, I ended up liking this story a lot.
Compromised - Gayle Callen - 3/5 - John ends up shackled to Elizabeth after he ends up compromising her at a party. She's spoiled, vain, beautiful and concerned with the wealth of her eventual husband. He's wealthy but she thinks he's poor, but wears plain clothing and values a practical woman who can run a household, raise his children, etc. Clearly, they are not suited to one another. And it's actually kind of depressing in this story - you feel sorry for both of them because they're stuck with the other and they're so unhappy. It's a very refreshingly different story. But I couldn't buy them falling in love really. She changes way too suddenly, she is almost a doormat to please him and yet she resents him. He's beyond irritated and disappointed in her, so I can't figure why he loves her either. I felt like they would need more than 3 days together to realize they could make the marriage work.
Treading Dangerous Waters - Victoria Marquez - 1/5 - Sofia's aunt is marrying Daniel, who has been divorced a couple of times. When James, Daniel's son, finds out that his Dad is marrying again he automatically assumes it's Sofia he's marrying and he has every intention of stopping it. Sofia decides to help out by distracting James, who is rude, intolerable and suspicious. And then he has the lovely idea to seduce the woman he thinks his father is in love with. So of course, I thought James was a complete jackass. And Sofia must have had no moral compass because how could she not immediately question James's ethics after the first time he kisses her? No respect for either of them. And they fall in love so quickly. "Oh, we like the same book, we must be in love!" But what really pissed me off was the ending.

The theme for this one is summertime. You have 3 contemporary romances & a strikingly odd choice of an Elizabethan era romance thrown in.
Lori Foster - 3 stars, protected sex. Could have been a 4 star, but I just couldn't get past the FOUR YEAR wait the hero puts himself through. Plus, he was CELEBATE the whole time!!!! Really? If LF would have made the wait a year or even 18 months I could have been 100% with this one. No way the horn dog flied solo all that time. Word of the day : prurient. Obsessively interested in matters of a sexual nature. The hero actually calls someone a prurient idiot. I really have never heard ANYONE actually use that word in normal conversation. I don't really believe if our hero was a real person he would use it either.
Laura Bradley - 4 stars protected sex. I'm really not a cowboy romance type person, but this one was pretty good. There's a mystery thrown in & the ending ends with "I love you", but doesn't insult us with instant marriage. It does end in a rushed fashion, but that's a anthology for you!
Gayle Callen - 2 stars. This was the Elizabethan story. I don't think the editors clued in the author that everyone else was doing contemporaries. I really liked the hero, but the female lead was a spoiled brat. I just couldn't get into it.
Victoria Marquez - 3 stars UNPROTECTED SEX. This could have easily been the best story in the book. It was until the very last chapter. Then it was ILOVEYOUMARRYME the end. These people have only known each other for less then a week!!! They didn't even LIKE each other for half that time. Then, not to use protection was stupid for both of them. VERY disappointing!!!!
Quick read. Hot and Bothered works well for the title...lots of "build up" to the steamy parts. I would probably rate it at 3 1/2 stars...not quite 4 stars.
I read three of the four stories...the second one I was reading along and in in the middle of the second chapter was part of another book--an Agatha Christie book! I don't think she wrote anything that would fit in this genre. I was a little perturbed and just had to move on to the next story. oh, well...it seemed like it was starting out to be a good story, too...I could have finished it, but I would have missed chapters 2-4. It did start up again in a steamy part.
Anyway...check your book and make sure you have the whole thing before reading!
