Even considering that this book is from the 1940s, it is painful to read - the prose is so poorly written. The only reason I finished it was because I wanted to see who did it.

I would like to have given this two and a half stars really as it was a very slow starter that got a bit more interesting as it went on. It seems strange that Scotland Yard would call in a private criminologist to take over the investigation. I found this a bit off-putting. Very complicated plot with a lot of red herrings and a slightly unsatisfactory ending.
