Her Cursed Protectors #4

The Wars of Monsters

Rate this book
Two lost sisters. A war that will define two worlds. A curse that demands a price.

As outliers sweep through Katakin City killing those who oppose Warrick, the monsters are left bleeding and wounded, forced to hide away and prepare for the coming war in secret. I'm one of them now, and my mates and I have to play our parts in what's to come. The monsters of the rebellion are relying on me to use my power to fight, and Locke, Kade, Asher, and Darian must finally step up and become the alphas Katakin needs.

But when the war comes, the outliers see both the monsters and the fae as enemies. If we have any hope of surviving, the fae king will have to decide whether centuries of hate and the desire for revenge is worth the annihilation of two races.

Breaking the curse over Katakin could be the answer, and I need to figure out the secrets embedded in my mind. I went to Katakin to save my sister, but when I find out she's the answer I've been searching for, I'll have to make a choice. Hold on to everything I ever believed or let us become who we need to be to save two worlds…no matter the price.

This is the fourth and final book in the Her Cursed Protectors series and a fun reverse harem fantasy romance for mature audiences. This story contains cursing, violence, and all the spicy goodness a monster could want with her mates.

I don't understand what it is about the series' final book that always lets me down. I just think that there will never be enough books to fully give closure to a series because it's always rushed. This makes me mad because the first few books of the series are always so good, and the world-building is there, and you get the final book, and it's all thrown in the trash.

The whole purpose of the series was for Raine to search for her sister among the monsters because she never knew what had happened to her when she was taken ten years ago. Only for Cara to be in the Fae realm the entire time, and we find that out 80% in, and they have a quick reunion, and the book ends soon after. There were even Cara's POVs, which gave me a sense of where she was this entire time, but it could've been inserted in the first few books if I was supposed to connect with Cara. I just think the execution of the novel's premise was rushed, and the battles that occurred with the King and the "cure" were not handled properly. They finally get to be human, but we don't see that.

At the end of the day, so much of their identity was being monsters, so I don't understand why they wanted to be human again so severely. In the previous book, when they turned human for the first split second, they were uncomfortable and didn't know what to do with themselves, so you're telling me they wanted to be human. I don't understand why they wanted to be human in the first place. I mean, you're you're super cool paranormal beings.

I wish we had also seen more of her as a dragon. She barely discovered the true nature of her being in the previous book, and now it's all over, so that's upsetting and underwhelming. We also discover that she has royal ancestry and ends up making a sacrifice that saves everybody, and that's how everybody gets to be human. The whole curse and cure for humanity was just not great. It happened in a chapter, and I was over it by that point.

[All]

“My place is with you, Mahare. And Locke, Asher, and Darian. There was a time when my pack meant more to me than anything. But things have changed. I still have loyalty for the wolves, but they’re not the family they once were.”

“Give in, Raine,” he breathed when he broke the kiss. “Let us mark you. Let us show the world that you’re ours and nothing can change that. Not even when war is on the horizon. Fuck the Taratun council. We’ll kill them all if we have to.”

The only good thing about this was that they all accepted the bond, and I loved their romance. It was fast-paced, based on what happened in the first piece, but it was enjoyable at the end of the day, and I can't say anything bad about it. They are loyal protectors, and she would do the same for them. They care for each other not only because they're bonded but because they genuinely love each other and wouldn't survive without each other.

They had an undeniable connection and would do anything to make each other happy, and that was clearly shown because they would sacrifice being in a realm that they didn't even like and just said that they could be with each other. My favorite part was that Asher finally accepted his monster features and allowed Raine to touch him in places he had never allowed anyone to touch. That was a growth aspect of his character. There wasn't a noticeable moment that I could capture for each of the boys in this book. It blurred together, but it wasn't a bad glance at the romance.

─── ・ 。゚☆: OVERALL *.☽ .*:☆゚. ───

All that to say, the book was good. I mean, it was really short, so I can’t complain much about it, but that’s also why the plot was so rushed. It’s not like I would reread it again but I did enjoy this read.

War

This is a great action-packed ending to the series. I think there were more fights and battles in this book than all the other books in the series combined. I love it.

Since returning to find their home now under the rule or the evil Worrick, and the fae invasion inevitable, Raine and the monsters face overwhelming odds on both sides. What possible chance can the Rebels (who can barely tolerate each other) against both armies?

Revelations and violence. It was a great ending, but could there be more? I am heading. I stuck with this series. The later books make it all earth it.

Excellent and full of excitement

I loved how well this story flowed. The characters grew together perfectly, especially the desire and wanting. I felt the energy in the battle scenes. I wanted more of these worlds.

A fun series that had some predictable bits, but also managed to throw a few twists at me I wasn't expecting. I loved all the Monster mates, but I have a particular soft spot for Demon Asher.

Pro-tip for the FMC and everyone else fighting back: if you have the big bad that is causing all the death and mayhem, go ahead and just kill them. Don't confine them, drug them, lock them up or some other absurd idea.

The thing that really bugged me throughout the series is that everyone spoke the same language. I mean all the characters in the series were from 3 separate worlds/realms and yet there wasn't any sort of language barrier at all. Not in speaking nor writing.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a perfect end to Raine and her monsters story. This story is a nice, easy read filled with action and adventure and most importantly a good level of spice! This book wraps up many of the important questions from the first 3 books whilst also leaving the option for a spin off series about Raine’s sister.

Raine and her monsters work together to stop Warwick from waging war against the Fae and the rebels and encounter many challenges along the way. Raine goes on an important journey of self-discovery accepting her new dragon side as well as dark secrets from her families past. Her monster stick by her side whilst discovering that they shouldn’t be bound by rules of archaic society and accepting the most scarred parts of themselves.

This book was good but it honestly felt like a lot of back and forth between the present and the past. Which is fine but I was wanting Raine to connect more with her mates. It just seemed like there was always something going on.

Locke going to Raine after helping Garan and the Gargoyles was so sweet. How much he needed her and calling her his mate!!! OMG! That was such an amazing scene.

I'm happy that we got some pov chapters from Cara so we can understand what happened. The chapter when she discovered she had powers was so intense!!! I thought it was amazing she's also part fae. Wow. I really wasn't expecting Xander to be a bad guy (thinking he's doing the right thing). That was heartbreaking, I felt so bad for Cara.

Although, I do feel like Cara's pov's should've been introduced in the third book at least. Especially since we got an understanding of what happened to her. It felt a little hard to connect with her character. Also, her and Raine didn't get very much time reuniting. The last book overall felt a little rushed.

Finding out Raine and Cara are from Queen Izla's bloodline was a plot twist! I wasn't expecting that but I really liked that addition to the plot!

I almost didn't finish the book because I read a review saying they became human again but I'm so glad I pushed through. The way the book ended was actually surprisingly nice. They defeat Warrick and the fae king. Xander stopped fighting them, Prince Azaren became the king and the curse became only tied to the land so any monsters that would like to become human are able to leave or if they just want to travel they can without worrying about being away from Katakin.

I also feel like with the way things were left at the end that it's safe to assume Raine and her mates will stay primarily in Katakin but also leave to visit other places! Especially because Raine very much likes her dragon side. I think the guys would also miss their monster sides but it gives them the chance to be human whenever they feel like it. Also, the protection bond that got broken due to Raine and prince Azaren sacrificing themselves gets put back in place. Plus, I like that Cara and Garan developed a bond as well! Good series overall!

This is the fourth book in the series and thank god we finally have all the answers!

I stumbled across the Cursed Protectors series via a Facebook ad. It was during a time I was a novice with reverse harem books, but had sunk my teeth into some recommendations. Unfortunately, I had stumbled into the ugly side of Kindle Unlimited and found A LOT of poorly proofed and edited stories. I prepared myself for much of the same as I opened Book 1 - But was pleasantly surprised.

I spent that entire night reading the first book and the next day reading Book 2. I mean,

Smart talking, stubborn, self sufficient woman - check
Brooding hot vampire- check
Possessive alpha werewolf - check
Gorgeous smooth talking siren - check
Sarcastic demon - check
Humor - check
Spice - check
Intrigue - check
Proofed and Edited - check

Book 3 brought in Fae and Book 4 is the cherry on top I’ve been waiting for.

Book 3 left us with more questions than answers and I was afraid there were going to be a lot of loose ends left, but it was all wrapped up perfectly.

I’m not saying the series is perfect, there are few books I’ve ever read I can say that about. But this series is intriguing and unique and kept my attention every step of the way (something that rarely happens). I can’t wait to see what Mia writes next.

What a great ending to the series!!!! Mia did an amazing job tying up the story and giving everyone a happily ever after. I was so curious at how everything was going to play out, but I couldn't have guessed all the twists and turns that were thrown in!

I loved the integration of Cara's POV and realizing how close her and Raine were a couple times and not even knowing it! It was interesting to read different things that played out at the same time from the monsters and fae side. I think the only criticism I have for this book as that I wished Cara and Raine would've had a bigger reunion. It happened in the middle of the war and I understand why their reunion needed to happen then (the tipping point for the fae to finally join the rebel monsters against Warrick). It just would've been nice for them to have a grander reunion and not need it to be so rushed.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this series. I loved all the tropes that were involved in this series, my favourites being enemies to lovers, touch her and die, reverse harem, found family and forced proximity. The end of the battle literally gave me chills once Cara healed the prince and Raine. Reading all the reactions of the fae and monsters almost had me tearing up. I would totally recommend this series to anyone who is into fantasy!!!!

"The Wars of Monsters" is the final book in the "Her Cursed Protectors" series, and I loved the ending to Raine's story! There's action, an epic battle, suspense, spice, and finally all the answers to the remaning questions. The author even managed to throw in some more unexpected twists and turns to the storyline, and I love it when an author manages to do that in the final book of a series. And best of all: there are no more cliffhangers to deal with!

This final book had everything I hoped for, and more. For those who still have to start the series, I can say this is one I would definitely recommend. Looking back at how this series started, there is no way I could have ever predicted all the twists and turns that happen throughout these four books, and I loved every single one of them. The strength, for me, in this series lies in the plot development and the original worldbuilding. I honestly can't wait to find out more about this author's work in the future; I'll definitely keep on following her.

As I was reading this book I realized I wasn't as into the series as I remembered. However, I was excited to close out the story and for a lot of the problem to resolved. The ending feels a bit rushed, most of the book was prepping for the fight but fight itself felt rushed and a lot of outstanding issues got resolved during the fight. Like figuring out that Warrick was behind so more of the problems the main characters had. Additionally it felt like a few things were left open, unsure if there will be future books or a spin off series. How the Fae and human will reintegrate, what happened to the Queen, how Katakin will rebuild, who stayed behind, how the new fae king will take over, etc.

I would love to see the queen open a portal to another place, I assumed she didn't age like humans. Maybe she rebuild her life else where. Time will tell if the author continues. I think a story in the same world but different main character would be good. Not sad to see Raine go.

Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5/5

This final installment was the perfect ending for Raine and her monster men. Book 4 wraps up a lot of questions from the first 3 in the series, provides action and adventure, and throws in some nice spicy times. Raine comes to terms with her monster, the bonds she has with her men (thankfully everyone is FINALLY marked), and dark secrets about her family. Through it all, Raine’s monsters…*swoon.* We LOVE each and every one of Raine’s mates for different reasons, and these men check so many boxes!!!

While a lot of Raine’s story was covered, there was just enough detail given about her sister Cara to allow for a potential spin off series (since Cara was included, and the bonus epilogue for Cara doesn’t give us enough information…more of a teaser, I hope that Cara gets a chance for her story to be told).

All in all, very happy with the series! Great world-building, action and intrigue!

3.5⭐️ Good conclusion to the series. Locke finally came around to accepting that Raine is their mate and she learns how to use her dragon powers. One thing I appreciate is that none of the guys went back or fixed the bad things that happened in their lives before. They moved past them but there was no magic fix where Kade is now Alpha and Darien is back leading the sirens. They’re different people than those who were in their positions and I was worried the author would try to put them back where they were.
The action was good, not confusing to follow and the chemistry between the characters was still hot. I wish that we had more time with dragon Raine as well as more time with her sister to see how things between Cara, the gargoyle and any other mates she might end up with would go. The bonus epilogue didn’t really help with that sadly. A novella would be nice.

This has been a series full of action, magic, betrayal, and romance and I'm sad to see it end. I was so excited to get an early copy! From the beginning, the bond between Raine and her monsters as they help her navigate the dangers and traditions of Katakin kept me hooked and longing for more. I thought this was the perfect ending and a good wrap up to many of the issues throughout the series. We finally get to find out what happened to Raine's sister Cara and witness their emotional reunion. The ending had me on the edge of my seat to find out the fate of my favorite characters! And I'm so excited to see a lead in to a new series featuring Cara!

Wonderful conclusion to the series

I have really enjoyed reading this series. I loved watching Raine grow and discover more of her power. I think this was a well done conclusion to the story. I wish we would have gotten a bit more indepth with the relationships between her mates, but I get they were busy with war. I also think there could have been a bit more of her learning her powers. It seemed like she struggled with accessing them until the end and we didn't really see if that was because the curse overrides her fae powers or if she just needed to get more practice with them. I am happy with the ending and really enjoyed this story. It did reinvent the wheel but it was a wonderful time.

Great ending to series

Enjoyed reading the end of the series. This book has a lot of the sister’s POV, but in doing so it gives glimpses of how the fae have been affected. It was nice to see how close the FMC’s relationship with her men had become in this book and her sister’s view of that closeness. I’ll admit I have to think carefully about what exactly in this book as read the series in couple of days so it all blends. Fact that read it in such short timeframe while still continuing with life does show how enjoyable and captivating the story is. Definitely recommend reading.

The conclusion to this series was awesome and I am glad that I was a part of this world and story and I will take it with me always. I have to admit that there were a few places when I felt like the story drug on and I was impatiently waiting for some action, but when it arrived, it was awesome. The final epic battle was great and all of the players fought for their freedoms and for their hope for a better monster free future. I feel here that my only true complaint is that the evil vampire, Warrick, was disposed of too quickly.

Aside from all that I was really glad when all of the males actually became Raine’s mates and when all of the ‘monsters’ realized that their ability to be something different was not really a curse, but something they should embrace.

This story was really cool and for a good fantasy/paranormal why choose read, it was worth it. In all honesty, there were not a lot of spicy sexy times, but I don’t think that took away from the really cool elements of the story. I definitely think this was worth the read.

Omg loved this series a curse that turned. humans into monsters monsters that take humans from an island so they can become monsters a girl trying to find her sister when the monsters took her two sisters not knowing they had fae blood but. Royal blood a vampire who's father was psycho a siren who thought he didn't deserve to be there leader a wolf who should of been the leader allowed the pack to beat him believing he killed his mother and sister or really the fae did but he had not helped them and a demon there is so much in this series but so good loved every book

I am not sure about this book. I was glad to get some answers to my questions but I am sad at how Mia decided to write this one. It was not like the other 3 especially with the flashbacks to Cara. It took away the plot that was happening with Raine and her mates. I wish there would have been another way to tie in Cara because I enjoyed hearing about everything that happened but it just didn't sit right with me.
The ending seemed rushed with all the battles happening one after the other. However, it was a good read.

But I could not stop reading as it just got better and better. Truly a great ending and the secrets that were uncovered OMG!!!

The Wars Of Monsters book 4

This is the final book in the series Her Cursed Protectors.
This book had me on the edge of my seat laughing and crying. Raine and her mates fight for their HEA against 2 different enemies. Raine also finds out what happened to her sister all those years ago. This book did NOT let me down. Sad that it's over now. I highly recommend reading this entire series. 5 stars is not enough.

This is such a good series. it's a very easy read, and everything flows perfectly. The last book ties everything up, and overall, it has a satisfactory ending.
I enjoyed the level spice in this series it wasn't too much and opened up the characters to building other levels of intimacy.
There were a few predictable moments throughout, but I would chalk that up to how many similar books of this genre I have read, and not the writer.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this book series.

What a fun series. Not gonna lie, I was ready for the end by the time it ended, but it was so good.

The pace stayed quick, the surprises didn't come across as forced. The spice trailed off but that was ok with me, i just wanted to know how it was gonna end.

I can't decide if I'm glad we got some of Cara's backstory or if it was unnecessary. Regardless it was well done.

This was a fun series that I'd probably dive into again if I was needing something to read.

What a great ending! I loved how everything came together in the end. It was wonderful to finally know what has happened to Cara and to follow her journey. Raine is impressive in this final battle not just in her fighting skills but in her ability to strategies and to rally when it counts. It was a great ending to a creative series. Noooo, I'm so sad this series is over. What a great story! It has a great plot, engaging characters and all the questions are answered by the end. The action is AMAZING, even the war scenes were great. I could imagine everything happening, it gave me Lotr vibes. It's an epic and ended with a boom! I wished there was more, but I guess there will be a book with Cara and her future mates. I'm definitely going to read it when it comes out.
