I'm a 21 year old, English Lit major who's read Joyce's Ulysses to Milton's Paradise Lost and a million things in between. Yet, the Pretty Little Liars Series blew my mind. I'm not giving them any awards for literary merit or characterization, but the plot is truly unique and captivating until the very end. I was sucked in from the very first page and was eventually screaming "Who's A?!?!"
Sara Shepard definitely has a talent. She clearly put a lot of thought into the course of these novels and fabricated a mystery even Agatha Christie would enjoy. She's not too shabby of a writer either.
I can't wait to devour the next four books.

I read these a long time ago but enjoyed them and wished I would have read the others. At this point I would have to completely start over! A fun and interesting series though, especially for teens and young adults. Who knows? Maybe one day I will read them all!

Let's just say I have a very fickle relationship with this series. I could be frowning and despising it, then hurriedly getting the next book in a second. For one thing, there are a number of instances when the characters get on the edge of my nerves and irritate me. I'm not referring to the protagonists alone, but even the adults (No doubt with their immaturity, especially in neglecting their children and throwing those occasional trivial tantrums to their own kids).
Yet what made me give it a nearly perfect rating, and continuing to devour each and every book is simple: Curiosity, suspense, and the thrill.
Surely, every reader wants to know who the mysterious A really is, and the true story of the night Ali disappeared. The plot and the underlying mystery is what makes it lure people in to the fascination of this series.
There are things that strike me at often times, namely the writing style and how a character zooms out of focus and diverts into an unnecessary detail, like a speck of an object in the room. It helps with the visionary and for those who love minor details like this, but it would be useful if such things interconnects with the main focus. Added foreshadowing for the next books would be a great addition too, to keep (even) more people guessing.
I have great expectations for the conclusion along with the subplots to be neatly tied together. So far, so good.

Mannerisms, suspense and whatnot- I let the flaws slide as what Rosewood genuinely is. The Pretty Little Liars is a fun read, whether you're a mystery genre junkie or not.

Farfetched? Pretty much. Shallow? Kind of. Awesome? Totally.

The reason I gave these books 5 stars is that they sucked me in from the first page on. I learned to love every single one of the "pretty little liars", from sweet Emily over creative Aria and smart Spencer to "it girl" Hanna. Ali grew on me too, even though she was (probably)only in the flashbacks By the end of Pretty Little Liars, I found myself really invested in those characters, their problems and also the mystery of "A", although all of it combined was kind of far-fetched and unbelievable (which is also the name of the 4th book in the series -see what I did there?).

True, this won't go down as a classic in history and is typical beach lit, but after I've finished the fourth book, I found myself desperately wanting to read the fifth. I admit, I'm hooked.

So, it's 5 stars for the first part of this series.

I actually read books 1-8 but the whole series deserves one review. This is the story of four girls growing up in the affluent town of Rosewood, PA and the search for the truth behind the murder of their fifth best friend. I enjoyed the suspense and mystery involved in the series but didn't feel like all the loose ends were tied together in the end. Perhaps that is why the author is writing more books for the series. I honestly would have been perfectly happy with the ending in book 4 when everything seemed to come to a resolution. Through these books the author explores the world of "mean girls" and in Rosewood it seems that stalking your peers is very commonplace. These books are also a very quick read as I read the whole series in less than a month.

These first books were enveloped in secrets, mystery and backstabbing. They were beautiful books, yet the fourth book was the most explosive of all. It was shocking and really open about some of the secrets from the three previous books. Note, I said SOME. Some still remain as mysteries, like who killed Ali? Is Ian truly the killer? What if someone else was coming after these liars. Well, Shepard has one answer to that.

Book 6- who the hell knows, she can stretch the story so far that it's hard to know when she'll stop.

Love the whole series totally did not see Mona coming! I don't like that they didn't really give any clues so the reader didn't have any idea about the killer. Also I think that jason is either new A or is the killer also that dude in the woods was definitly him duh. PS. Love emily hate Hanna sort of feel bad for her in a not sort of way. Also like Isaac and Exavier miss Ezra, Sean, Lucas. Hanna is not giving that boy enough time.

I loved Pretty Little Liars. Although the plot for it is slightly cheesy and childish, the way Sarah Shepard writes the series is surprising.
The books are written very well and they are relateable. They combine everything most teen girls want in a book: mystery, suspense, fantasy, romance, and inseperable friendship. Although the books aren't very good in the beginning, as you keep reading them they start to grow on you. I would suggest reading Pretty Little Liars!

Pretty Little Liars is very good! It's so personal and so dramatic with their lives and the chilling secrets of beyond these four girls to realize. Although some of the language is a bit out there, it's an amazing relaxed-but-on-the-edge-of-your-seat kind of book! I recommend this book to any girl who needs a good mystery in life.

These are totally trashy high school novels - shallow, meaningless...and totally, completely addictive. I read the entire series in a week. I just couldn't stop myself! I feel a little ashamed and a little hungover - but my inner high schooler feels really happy and satiated. Totally worth it.

Giovani, Carine e Bugiarde - Deliziose ***
Giovani, Carine e Bugiarde - Divine

I decided to review these as a set (#1-4), because they are much better as a set than individually. If you’re going to read the first one, you need to at least read to #4. Otherwise the storylines are not even close to resolved. It reads a lot like a TV series if this was one season. Each individual book ends with cliffhangers and nothing really wraps up. You just have “clues” to the overall story.

The overarching plot is interesting, but some of the minor plots seemed too rushed and not fleshed out enough.

I hate most of the characters (not that they are badly written, just not likable). Of the 4 main characters only one is actually a decent person. And somehow, with their 8 parents, the best parent is the adulterer who moves out of the house halfway through. It’s a little unbelievable how terrible the parents are (though I guess how terrible they are partially explains how the teenage girls are so ridiculous).

It’s nothing ground breaking, but a fun, easy read. I’m in my 30s, so clearly not the target audience. I think it would be a fun and interesting read for someone in their teens as long as they knew it was not at all rooted in reality.

These books were a staple of my teenage years, I watched the show first and got so obsessed that I had to check out the source material, while each novel has bits that drag once the drama revs up there’s no stopping it! These books are a lot of fun and give us realistic characters that don’t feel like they’re getting the hero treatment, ofc there is the obvious problem of predators in rosewood so if you get triggered by stuff like that be careful with these series, about 90% of the older guys in these stories are creeps, but aside from all that the drama is gold and these books are a wild ride!

I watched the series on Netflix before the books because I didn’t know that there were books. The book was great but could have been better. The book could have been written better than it was. It was captivating even though I already know what happens. The book goes into some details that they missed in the show. You should read the books then each the series on Netflix. I am reading flawless right now ( the second book).

I read this book series after watching the first 3 or 4 seasons of the show. I got so disappointed, I was expecting the same thrilling as in the show but it never came. The book is definitely made for teenagers and as a 24 year old woman it was just not exciting enough.

The writing style feels targeted to a more young adult audience but I loved these books. I watched the show first growing up and read the books after. I loved how intense the books could get. You could likely finish each one within a single day.

A very enjoyable series. There are a bit of slight differences in the book and the actual show, but I liked it. It is easy to read through & would recommend to those who are interested in a young adult, "chick flick" like book. :)

3.5

- I personaggi.

- I temi trattati.

"Never trust a pretty girl with an ugly secret."

Note- this review is more about the series as the whole, instead of these specific books. No spoilers, though!

I'm not quite sure what to say about this series. I mean, I love it and each book is a nice, quick read that has me at the edge of my seat many times. But then, I feel as if this series has gone on for a tad too long, and there's no characters in here that are all that likeable. And yet... When I've spent some time away from this series, I find myself desperate to read the new installments.

The thing about this series is that each books focuses on all this evidence that seems to convince the reader (and the main characters) that the 'bad guy' is a specific person, but then at the end you get an explanation for it all. So then, if you know another book is coming out - or is already out - after the one you're currently reading, you know it's not going to be the person that seems guilty throughout the book, which can get tiring when you read multiple Pretty Little Liar books in a row. (This was also an issue in the Lying Game series by the same author). Also, as I said before, there aren't really any characters in here that are likeable or relatable.

However... I still kind of really like this series. It does suspense well and even if I don't care much about these four heroines, I still find myself curious as to what's going to happen and how these events will affect them. And even though I got tired of how long it kept going, once I spent some time away I found myself wanting to dive right back into the world of Aria, Spencer, Emily, Hanna, and, of course, A.

The TV series is, in my opinion, quite a bit better. I love it more than I ever did the book series. The characters are more likable and they changed the plot a bit, which usually would annoy me, but in Pretty Little Liars the changes they made were good and meant there were some surprises even for someone who's read the books. It also connects the whole series better (as a TV show) than having a separate A every few books or whatever.

So, I don't know, I guess I'd say go ahead and try this series to see whether or not you like it. Personally, I like to read a couple books and take a break before I read more to keep my interest. Then again, maybe that's just me.
