This is a true pocketbook (it lived in my coat pocket for two weeks). At 136 pages, it must be one of the most concise books on the Limes, although with a publication date of 2006, it is now 10 years behind the times (and at the rate of research published on the Limes at the moment, that is a lot). Still, a great introduction of the state of research. Two downsides: a) next to no illustrations, if you need to check something, you need one of the many other Limes books.
b)the referencing is pretty much absent and with a page and a half of literature, it is impossible to source some of the more exciting ideas on the history of the Limes (such as the evidence of a fourth-century reoccupation)
