This was a different type of Scooby-Doo mystery. As one of the Scooby-Doo Case Files stories, it has a more raw feel to it, with notes, puzzles and more interaction with the narrators, Velma and Shaggy. It's a fun story, although I recommend it for children who are starting to read chapter books more so than for families reading aloud together. Our girls had a lot of fun figuring out the puzzles and overall, it was an entertaining story.

This edition of the Scooby-Doo series is really good. The plot is interesting and the reader gets to solve the mystery along with the gang. I would recommend this chapter book to upper level readers because the narrative does switch about half way through from Velma to Shaggy. The clues are a little difficult and the reader would have to remember what is happening in the plot to fully understand. I would say that I was disappointed when I accidentally flipped too many pages and saw who the Devilish Donut really was. I would recommend this chapter book to children who are very close to beginning novels.
