Stig·ma /ˈstiɡmə/ a mark of disgrace associated with a particular circumstance, quality, or person. Having a distinguishing characteristic or personal trait that's perceived as, or actually is, a disadvantage causes someone to stigmatize you as a negative stereotype. The cause of stigma is often a lack of understanding or fear. Media representations that are inaccurate or misleading contribute to both factors. Shame, rejection, insults, discrediting others, depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts are some of the feelings associated with stigmatization. It is not uncommon for these feelings to last a lifetime. When people lack support they begin to doubt and dislike themselves.
Wow this book hit home in so many ways. What you assume people are doing with their lives is none of our business. Instead of assuming, maybe have compassion. This book needs to be read by everyone because we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. It has a lot of great information and I highly recommend it.
