The cover of this book is pretty much the only thing good about it. I struggled to finish it and have put it aside many times to read other things. I don't even know WHY I finished it. I used to think I had to finish every book I started and I've wasted so much time reading things that I hate. I always try to at least get halfway before putting it down and I should have done that here.

Making His Mark starts off dull and continues that way. For the entire novel. There's no real conflict or plot, other than Alexis acting like a raging hormonal bitch all the time.

Example: (Bo buys her flowers)

"These are lilies and they're orange. Both my favorites, and I've never told you I loved lilies. These aren't just flowers. You got them for a reason, spill it."

"Guess you'll have to wait and see."

"Whatever. I have a job to do."

She's just rude like this throughout the entire book. While she's not the most hated novel heroine I've ever read, she's definitely top five. There's pretty much nothing likable about her. Bo isn't the best, but he's at least a decent person. Alexis just flies off the handle constantly, over the most minor things.

I guess I should expect it though considering the entire conflict of the novel is over whether or not Bo should do Alexis' tattoo for her. She asks him to do it, he says he doesn't tattoo friends, she gets emo about it, he tattoos a friend and she finds out (and flips out), and he agrees to do her tattoo.

His reason for not doing tattoos on friends doesn't even make sense (Waaa my parents told me I'd never amount to anything).

I like a fluffy romance novel, but there should at least be SOME real conflict. I don't give a fuck whether or not Bo does her tattoo. A tattoo is not a real conflict.

The author creates other bullshit conflict, but it's all so dumb and minor and facepalmingly bad. Another example, Bo gets Alexis tickets to a Taylor Swift concert (her favorite singer).

At the concert, Bo is kind of grinding/feeling up on Alexis. She gets pissed at him, telling him that the parents of kids at the concert wouldn't like that and makes him stop. He doesn't get mad, he just says okay and stops. Immediately after, Alexis starts molesting Bo. He tells her to stop and winces about his blue balls. Alexis flips out, cusses him out and breaks up with him.

UH... WHAT?

I could have dealt with the flimsy boring plot if the sex was good, but the sex was awkward and boring. Who wants to read a sex scene with lines like this?

Bo had an unobstructed view of Alexis' moistened entrance to her core.

I just get a vision of him between her legs staring in to a huge gaping vagina.

Pass on this one.

This was just ok for me. It started out good and interesting but fizzled. There was definite sexual tension between Bo and Alexis that they tried to fight, and fight they did. When they finally hooked up, it was over too quickly for me. Alexis was kind of a nut job, dramatic, and some of it was annoying. She would overreact. She had a conversation with Sarah that made no sense to me. Wound up reading it over and i still was off. Overall I felt like she was a drama queen who needed a IV drip of midol to calm the fuck down. Little things bothered me, like the mystery guy in the bar all of a sudden was named Stan. Travis turned into Trevor later on in the book. Sometimes I felt bounced around, Bo sometimes sounded like a puss, when he supposed to be solid hot and a tattoo artist. He didn't scream out alpha. I'm sorry, for me I wasn't feeling it.

I can't get into this. Alexis is annoying and pissing me off. I thought she and Bo were supposed to not like each other. But within the first few chapters, they are suddenly hooking up. Seemed a bit too fast for me - I would have liked to have seen more build up to that. And their arguments are ridiculous.

I'm getting a little burnt out on adult contemporaries so that could have some influence on my opinion of this. Either way, I'm going to hold-off on finshing this - may come back to it at a later date.

I think that I would have liked this one better if Bo and Alexis had fought for the whole damn book. I also had a hard time buying into their romance as they hated each other at the start. I also didn't like how each of them talked to their mutual friends every time they fought trying to get them on their side.

Author Interview: http://lisleslivres.blogspot.com/2013...

Characters:

Alexis: She is more outgoing, being friends with a bunch of guys. She puts up a facade, but she's actually very sensitive. The trait that I like about her a lot is her kindness, not just to Bo, but everyone. She's an elementary school teacher, which tells you a little something about her patient personality.
Bo: Bo definitely has his moments of being sweet, but he acts really dumb sometimes. There's no other way to say it. He's lucky that Alexis overlooks this. regarding him, the one trait that I liked was his loyalty to the people he loves and that he wants to make them proud.
I appreciate that diversity of these characters. It's refreshing to read about Native Americans.

Plot: *Spoilers*

I'm pretty sure that epic kiss happened in the 2nd chapter. I was utterly confused. How can you go from being enemies to kissing each other? Where's the build-up for the climactic kiss? Along the same lines, it seemed like Bo was in love with Alexis extremely fast. The pacing of this book was way too quick!!

I realize that this is adult fiction, but wow, this book is largely made up of sex scenes! Now, I'm totally for a few here and there to build up tension and anticipation, but that got lost for me because of the frequency.

I was expecting Alexis' reasons for not wanting to get involved with Bo to be more dramatic than they were. I guess I read too much fiction involving drama, trauma, death and other serious issues, so this plot seemed very plain and disappointing.

Overall, I had issues with the plot. I thought it was less than mediocre.

Writing: I haven't been addressing this too often, but I felt the need to say that the D was neglected. That's right, there were endless diction errors. I don't know if I received the finished product, but the horror! Crystal, captious Crystal, would die! I get that self-published books might have errors, but these took away from the story. I cringed at the book when I found a mistake, and unfortunately that was often. Now, I'm going to feel really embarrassed if there are any typos in this review.

Cover: I was surprised to see such clean, ink-free models for a book surrounding the topic of tattoos. I expected Bo to at least have one.

Would I recommend this to a friend? No, I'm sorry. I feel terrible for giving a bad review on a blog tour, but I must be candid.

Making His Mark definitely intrigued me and presented itself with a lot of potential. I’ve been on a romance kick lately, but I keep telling you all that even though I love the romance, there HAS TO BE a decent plot for me to call it a great book. While this one was interesting enough, the plot itself was a bit lacking and I didn’t really get the seriousness of it all. While I will say that I did like the book and that it had fun moments here and there, it wasn’t what I was hoping for at all.

The characters are a bit different here since they’re of Native American descent and I haven’t read any, I think, from that perspective, so it was nice seeing some of those aspects in the book. I wish I could’ve seen more though, as their culture was hinted at here and there, but not really explored. I also liked how Bo is a tattoo artist, since it’s the first time I’ve read about a character like that, too. I’m definitely a fan of tattoo art, having some myself, and Bo takes great pride in his artwork and that comes into play a lot in this book.

The intimate scenes were probably the best parts of the book, but lets face it, it’s not that hard to write a good sex scene. They were sizzling and vivid, the chemistry was definitely there, but that was it. Outside of the heated romance, the characters weren’t that interesting to me. The actual secrets that they’re hiding from each other weren’t as monumental as the author was building it up to be. I can understand why Bo refuses to work on Alexis, and Alexis’ reasons for avoiding commitment, but I felt like those weren’t reason enough for them to be so closed off from each other. I definitely liked Bo more than Alexis here. Alexis frustrated me a lot throughout the book and even though she’s a bit jaded, I felt like she was too jaded and scared for someone in her situation. It was definitely one of those times where I wanted to smack the girl and get her to come to her senses.

I think after reading a ton of really great romance novels, I’m pretty picky about them and I know what I want and love in a book. Making His Mark is a good one to start off with, as it has a few highlights and fun moments, but if you’re looking for more than just the hot, intimate scenes, you might find this one doesn’t quite hit the bullseye.

I loved the romance, but the plot just didn't do it for me at times. The fact that the motivation of the majority of the plot was based around Alexis wanting Bo to do her tattoo wasn't enough for me. The romance and sexual tension between Alexis and Bo is pretty hot.

There was also some really random details that were never fully explained. Like Alexis dances at powwows and it is brought up several times, but nothing actually comes of it.

I also had some issues with pacing. Some things seemed to happen much to fast, while others dragged a bit. Alexis kind of annoyed me. She overreacted to everything - and I understand she was hurt, but sometimes there was a bit too much of the fight and make up. I also was not a fan of the friendship between Sarah and Alexis. While Sarah seemed like a great person, I felt like Alexis used her a bit.

Making His Mark was a book that kept my attention the whole time - I constantly wanted to know what would happen next and how things would turn out. One of my favorite things about the book were the secondary characters - they were all great.

So all in all, Making His Mark was a mix for me. While I enjoyed reading it, there were some issues I had with the plot and pacing throughout. Yet, the romance was good and I quite enjoyed the secondary characters.

Let's start with the cover... super sexy right? And now look at the blurb... yup sounds good, uh?

Making His Mark is a fast read with very few slow moments. While I enjoyed the fast pace of the book sometimes it felt a bit rushed. I'd have like a bit more of tension between Alexis and Bo.

The writing is great, the banter between Alexis and the boys, Travis and Matt, was really fun to read. The pointless arguments between her and Bo was something I liked about the book. I say pointless because, the two of them just love to argue, and it was entertaining.
Now, the only thing about the writing I didn't like was the transition between one POV and the other, but then this is probably more formatting and anything else... it just jumps from one to the other without warning.

The plot doesn't have many twists, what you get from the blurb is basically it as the book focus on Alexis trying to get a tattoo and Bo refusing her but overall is a great light read, especially for a weekend ;)

I have mixed feelings about Making His Mark. There were several parts that I liked, but Alexis kinda killed it for me. She's annoying and way too dramatic. I don't know of any man that would be willing to put up with a woman like that. The relationship between Bo and Alexis felt a little too one-sided. To me, it seemed like he was the one making all of the compromises and always the one to try and make up after a fight. Oh, and fighting? Yeah, that's ALL they do. Fight and then have really hot make up sex...repeat, repeat, repeat. I'm glad I read it, I just wish there was a little more to it.

Between fantasy and reality

This book was a pleasant read. A nice little romance story with two very confusing and frustrating characters who fall for each other. Sometimes the storyline was confusing and a litlle predictable but it was still an enjoyable read, a book to let all your troubles away and to relax. The romance was steamy and interesting, the writing okay, and all in all it was a good debut.

I liked the book. It didn't pull me in very deeply but it was a good plot. I liked how Bo and Alexis had their own insecurities with their pasts to overcome and that they finally trusted each other to do so together. I liked how they hated each other at the beginning. I think it made their relationship all the more special. Had a few misspelled words here and there but, dispite that, it was a pretty good read.

Personally I didn't really care for this novel. There was nothing about it that really pulled me in and held onto my interest. I found a lot of parts too slow for my liking which caused me to be bored.
