I love this book! This book takes place in the 1980’s on a farm in Provo, Utah owned by the twelve member Yost family. The main character, Alex, and his nine siblings live in a small house by a mountain. When their parents tell them that four new kids will be joining them for the school year while their mother recovers from a serious illness, they couldn’t be more shocked. Alex is not looking forward to his home becoming even more crowded. These four new arrivals, Annie, Jordan, Jacque, and Joel, are just as upset as he is. But over time, they become good friends.
I felt that the author’s writing style suited the novel perfectly. It really felt like the words were coming out of the mind of a teenager while simultaneously using good grammar, excellent style, and wonderful descriptions. I could not put this book down and it was wonderful to get to know all of the characters. I greatly relate to this book. I feel that anyone could relate to at least one of the characters in some way. As I was reading, I couldn’t help but make connections to stories that my father tells me about when he was growing up on a farm. I could relate each of the characters to someone I know. The main message of this story in my opinion was to try to be kind and understanding towards everyone. This theme is brought up throughout the entire book. You never know what someone could be going through and we shouldn’t judge others based on our own situation.
I would recommend this book to all ages. It has something for everyone. I would especially recommend it to people who grew up in or are in a large family. I also recommend this book to teenage boys. Guys could probably relate to this story much better than I can. When reading this book, remember to have an open mind and an open heart towards all of the characters.

I read this book based on a recommendation from my sister-in-law and you should too if you can find a copy. It's not in the Salt Lake County library system anymore so you'll have to find a nice person to loan you a copy or maybe you'll stumble across one at Deseret Industries. The story centers around a large farming family living near Brigham City, Utah. Their home is already bursting at the seams when the mother of the family invites her friend's four children to come and live with them for a time. The book mainly focuses on the teenage boys in the family and their antics left me wondering what's in my future as the mother of three (going on four) boys. I actually found myself laughing out loud at several places in the book and tearing up in a couple of others. This book is about learning to make the best of your circumstances and opening up your heart to love and I really enjoyed it.

This is a very fun read. The story is about a large family who takes in four more kids. At first three of the boys resent having the extra's there. They have much to learn from sharing their home, their room and their lives. This is one of my favorite books. If you want a book with laughs and tender moments this is it.

Writen by LDS author but story has nothing to do the LDS church. Cute and fun. You might not be able to find this book anywhere else but amazon but well worth the price. Everyone I know who has read it(young, old, male, female)has loved it!

I really love this book. It is about this very big Mormon family and I could relate to some of the humor in it, which is probly why I like it so much! Its not a commonly known book and probly really hard to find, so if anyone wants to borrow it let me know.

This wasn't my favorite of his books, but it does have a message for blended families. Good for teens.

This is a fun quick read about small town mormon life. It's not a book that preaches LDS doctrine, but just talks about regular real-life stuff. It's kindof like reading somebody's journal.
