Warm, by nature cheerful, dental receptionist Alice Waterman finds herself desperately in need of money when her mother is taken seriously ill. Reluctantly she signs on with Velvet Whispers, a sophisticated phone-sex business that entertains its wealthy male clientele with naughty talk and steamy erotic tales for a hefty fee, and for the first time confronts desires and a sensuality that, she begins to realize, lies beyond talk.
Hi. I'm Joan Eliabeth Lloyd. Let me tell you a bit about myself.
Pesonal stuff: I was born in 1941 - yes, as of this writing I'm 77. I have a wonderful partner of thirty years named Ed (no, we're not married - for tax reasons) two wonderful daughters, a talented son-in-law and three grandchildren, Sarah and Adam, both out of college and gain-fully employed and Luke, aged 15.
Professional stuff: I wrote my first book, Nice Couples Do, in 1990, because I wanted to share my ideas about sexual communication and sexual freedom. I've written many books (novels and non-fiction) since but stopped writing several years ago.
As you may have gathered, I'm a devoted couch potato. I'm an omnivorous reader, both in my eyes and in my ears.
My present interest is in Battered women. I donate earrings, about 900 pair a month, to shelters all over the country, with the help of attendees at my many workshops. Phew!!!!
Alice's mom needs to go to a nursing hom but she has not money to get her mom into a decent place so she starts selling her voice...phone sex. Very erotic story.
This is adults-only erotic fiction but it is well written with sympathetic characters. Alice seems like a timid mousy woman - she's been married once to a man who browbeat her and belittled her and now along with her sister is trying to care for an elderly mother. The mother needs care that they cannot afford and when Alice mentions this to a friend, the friend tells her that she has a part-time job that pays well. It turns out that this job is working at Velvet Whispers, a phone sex company. At first Alice is put off, but after speaking with Velvet, the owner of the business, she is encouraged to write a few stories - she does like storytelling - to explore this side of her that has been largely untapped. Alice grows through the novel and learns about herself. There is plenty of steamy sex and I liked the story format as it was a way to inject a little variety without being too kinky.
