This was recommended to me by a friend, who suggested that I not take the language as typical of "black speak" (her words). The language of the characters WAS street language - but mostly only when appropriate.
Overall I agree that it is a really great plot line. It flows well, it has a definite flair of murder, intrigue and political backstabbing, along with a really great love story built into the background.
I dislike that fact that the Chameleon appears to be an idiot. She is a strong, successful, powerful woman who practically throws away her career, puts her trust in the wrong people, and jumps around trying to be everything and refusing to trust the man her heart is singing for.
The story also opened with an idiot. The agent the Chameleon is trying to find is an idiot.
So - why are both the strong, beautiful, talented FBI agents made out to be stupid?
The one part that made sense as far as the outcome, but could have used more buildup or explanation was Ronnie and his role. I think he could have been built up a bit, as could Delphi. Both were good people with important roles (although Ronnie's was more of a throwaway role.)
Other than that, this was a really great story. Jacob/Jonathon is portrayed as strong yet approachable, and even Mike appears to have some good in him. I did dislike the Senators, but they didn't really get a lot of the book dedicated to them.
