The Flaming Prophecy is the first book in a new dragon shifter fantasy romance series. If you like steamy, slow burn fantasy romance, you'll love following this tale of forbidden love. Read The Flaming Prophecy today for a forced proximity romance that will keep you turning pages.
The Flaming Prophecy by Kiera A. Reynolds offers an intriguing plot and interesting characters. The story is set in a world ruled by dragon shifters, where humans are kept as slaves. In this harsh world, a prophecy speaks of a red dragon destined to bring everyone an era of peace and prosperity. But red dragons are viciously hunted and killed. A human slave, Ryn, tries her best to stay alive in a world as cruel as this. Still, her life is changed the day the dragons notice her, and she becomes a slave to one. But, all is not as it seems, and Ryn has to navigate a world of trickery, cruelty, and unexpected love.
I wished we had more action in the book, as it seemed most of the plot took place in the last 10 percent. Still, I enjoyed how the author gave the MCs time to build relationships and trust, and I feel it will all be worthwhile in Book 2. Some of the revelations weren't as surprising, but still, I enjoyed the story and cannot wait to see it all unfold in the sequel, The Flaming Rebellion.
This is my first time reading a book on dragon shifters and also my first time reading a book not traditionally published with editors etc.
I would say this book leans more towards a romance focus than fantasy. There was a clear plot but the book focuses more on following the everyday interactions, emotions and relationship of the two main characters. I personally prefer a more fleshed out, action-driven book. I also found some main plot points quite predictable and wish less hints had been dropped/repeated. I would say its clear that it has not had the attention of an experienced editor; some sentences I had to read multiple times, repetition seems to be a common occurrence in the authors writing and also using a lot of rhetorical questions when the characters were unsure of what might happen next. Without giving spoilers, I felt that some moments/events had too much attention, whilst others where I felt more would have been discussed, were brushed over.
However, that's not to say I didn't enjoy the book! As a fast reader, the odd imperfect sentence bothered me less and less as I was reading and I found myself excited to see the relationships develop, and the big plot point to be revealed. The last 15% or so of the book was far more aligned with my personal preferences for books. I look forward to hopefully seeing more action and character development in the sequel, as well as seeing the authors writing style further develop as she continues to write.
The plot really has so much potential and I wanted to love this book but at times it struggled to maintain my interest. Overall though I did enjoy the story.
It did feel like it needed to get into the action quicker, it all happened in the last 10% of the book even though it was pretty predictable so you impatiently wait during the other 90% for it to get to the point.
The writing style is very repetitive, the author constantly repeats herself as though we might have forgotten what happened only a few paragraphs ago. The same goes for character descriptions, for example, the constant need to refer to the characters ‘fiery red hair’. I think sometimes the author has a tendency to over describe what’s happening.
I love a good fantasy with a romance subplot but this book was far too focused on the romance element for me personally (but a lot of people love that and that’s ok!) and the romance did make more sense at the end.
Although the writing style did feel slightly ‘clunky’, it’s definitely something that can be fixed and I really do hope that the author writes a sequel as I want to find out what happens next!
I had bought the ebook before and liked it so much that now I ordered the paperback. I really love this dragon shifter romance, and it had what I love in a fantasy romance. I love slow burns because they make more sense to me and the reward of the couple getting together is a lot greater. This book did a great job with that element. The forbidden love aspect was nice too, and I thought the characters were realistic given their backgrounds.
Ryn had a nice character arc that I think will develop nicely over the next books. She started out as an oppressed slave girl who was wary and fearful of the world she lived in but found a way to keep going through it. The things she endured and her perseverance helped her grow nicely through the book. I'm looking forward to seeing how the next stories develop the well done worldbuilding and characters even more.
This is a really nice debut novel by the author, and I look forward to more from her.
This is the first book by this author that I’ve read and I will definitely read more. It’s a duel POV, written in the first person, which I like because we get the MMC’s side of the story instead of really never knowing how our brooding, seemingly emotionless MMC feels! I did feel that it was obvious from the moment I heard the prophesy who it was about, however the plot still kept me wanting to know the outcome. I was quite frustrated for the first two thirds of the book because out MC’s we’re doing that annoying ‘no we don’t belong together, it’s too dangerous, it’s not meant to be’ rubbish! Threy has a duty to his family to choose a bride worthy of his status and for alliance, not love. Ryn, a lowly human servant could never be anything. But having said that, once they finally gave into their attraction it started getting interesting. I am definitely invested in this series to find out how Threy and Ryn stay together and overcome the reveal at the end of the book!
With the exception of the last 10% of the book, this entire book is just an into to the place and people, a day-to-day life with mention of a prophecy here and there to remind us of what we're looking forward to. There were at least TWO separate chapters that described someone taking a bath because they lived in mid-evil times and were dirty. This has the making of a great series, but for the most part, this book was so boring and should have been condensed into a novella. If you like the cut of life, read about the day to day living of a dragon prince and his human servant, then this book is for you! Also, you know exactly who the red dragon is almost immediately, so that's not a mystery to look forward to. (Unless your brand is new with these types of books... then maybe it will be a surprise?)
As for the last ten percent, it all finally happens! And it is mainly a setup for what I hope is an action-packed book two!
3.5 ⭐️. Set in a world where humans are enslaved to dragons, The Flaming Prophecy is a tale of forced proximity and forbidden love with a slow burn and plenty of angst. At times, the book was a little slow and the internal dialogue a bit repetitious, but the story was interesting and the main characters were compelling. There were some grammatical errors and inconsistencies with descriptions (e.g., a few times the FMC’s eyes were referred to as green when the rest of the time they were grey), but nothing that really detracted from the book. There was some spice, which I’d rate at 🌶️🌶️ as it was not explicit but not fade to black either. Overall, I enjoyed this solid debut from the author and will definitely read the next book.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Ryn is an enslaved human woman who cleans the horses. Threy the third son to the lord who owns the land, someone who is seen as privileged and uncaring like the rest of his family. Their adventure together is, my goodness, more thanmy reg run of an emotional roller coaster. It was more constant whiplash with her, I get it she in a predicament but the both of them really emotional whip lash.
it was a good book with some little plot twists that really have me want to throttle characters I'll never meet, but my desire is real. It was a good book, with the main plot pretty obvious but it was the little things that kept me in it till the end.
Key points in no particular order: – Dragon shifters – humans – slavery – prophecies – one tent – adventure – different classes – spicy 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️ – manipulation – familial strife – slavery – Betrayal
In this time period, dragons are the rulers and humans are their slaves. In Ryn’s case, she was presented to the Lord of Ildracan as a gift. She is supposed to stay out of sight for her own safety. Threy, the third dragon son of Lord Archon, is supposed to select a dragon mate. Then Ryn breaks the rules about staying out of sight and ends up belonging to Threy. With the king paranoid and suspicious of anyone who might try to kill him, Ryn and Threy need to be careful around him or they could put themselves in danger. Will the two of them fall in love? Will they escape the king’s notice? Or will an unexpected occurrence turn everyone’s rapt attention to Ryn?
Set in a world where humans are enslaved by dragons, I found that to be a refreshing twist on a fantasy novel! The characters become very well developed, and the world building is really great! It would be a 5 star for me, but I found it a bit too slow with a few too many chapters, leaving it hard for me to sit down and binge read it. The slow burn romance was a great slow though, so there’s some good balance there. I look forward to reading more in this world though!! Overall a great first book that sets the pace and sets up a lot of directions for the author to go in!!

An enjoyable read. I wasn't sure if I would like it as I'm more of an urban fantasy reader but I was pleasantly surprised. I like the main characters and how their relationship developed, it's a slow burn so I was happy with the speed of it. A few things I would have liked to read in this story: a bit more meaty secondary characters, as much as I like the main couple, they didn't have anyone other than themself so if they weren't talking to each other they were doing inter monologue. Also, the "mystery" was predictable, so I'd have preferred it earlier in the story.
Its been a long time since i read a fantasy book and mainly the dragon ones and this book gave the plot soo good i liked the idea of the slavery and things.
This one is more on the plot and explaining everything and its good the character build is amazing i love how their chemistry build towards each other and can't wait to read what the next book holds. There are alot of things that i want to have in the next book so finger crossed ❤️
Thankyou for the eARC and this is my honest review ❤️
This book was a solid 4 star read. Being the first in a series, it was necessarily a bit slow at times, as a lot of character and world building occurred to set up this book and the rest of the series. Both of the main characters were wonderfully endearing and the storyline was developed beautifully. The twist at the end was a bit predictable, but it was well written and set up the sequel well. Overall, this was a good book and I will absolutely read the next one!
This is a wonderful story. The world building is very impressive. I love how complex the system that the author has created is. The characters are so bold and in your face. I really connected to the story. My heart was fully engaged. This is a beautiful story. The plot had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Ooh the betrayal and pain that the characters had to go through. My heart wept for them. This is a wonderful story. I heartily recommend this book.
In a world where dragons rule and humans are frowned upon, an elicit affair was bound to happen eventually The lords 3rd son and the poorly stable girl, fight a losing battle to keep their relationship platonic With all the tasks and hurdles thrust before them it all falls apart when the people they think they can trust betray them
dragon shifters yes please! Ryn is beyond nothing as a human, a slave to be treated poorly by dragons. Threy is the 3rd son of a noble and expected to do as he is told! Falling in love with a human wasn't something he ever expected to happen! Can he find away to make this work? Time is ticking! Their journey to be together is filled with despair and heartache but so much love too.
I quickly became caught up in this one. Rhyn and Threy are facing impossible odds. Mystery, secrets, dragons, betrayal, and of course a spicy forbidden romance! I need more!!
Oh my goodness! Those last 70-60 pages were intense!! I was literally screaming, bawling and sitting on the edge of my seat! Also… 3rd dragon horn? bahaha! Loved it!
