When reading a book about chameleons it’s always a great idea to choose one with lots of beautiful pictures! It’s somehow both too dense for a novice and not detailed enough for someone who already knows a bit about chameleons, but I suppose it is thorough in its own way. Probably not the ideal starting place if you want a chameleon as a pet, but I suppose it IS a good jumping off point if you just want to learn things about chameleons. Overall I think it’s good but the scope of the book is too broad. This book has convinced me that I absolutely love chameleons but they are incredibly difficult and time-consuming to care for and I shall love them from afar instead of in my house.
I’ve gotten interested in Chameleons after finding a wild Jackson’s Chameleon in the yard. This book showcases the ones most common in the pet trade are either Jackson’s, Veiled, Panther, or Parsons. I thought it was interesting how almost all of the Jackson’s Chameleons in the USA pet trade have Hawaii origins from when a shipment was released in the wild in Kaneohe in the 1970s. These Old World lizards are the closest I’ll ever get to a dinosaur, so that’s why I find them fascinating.
