The book I *should* have taken with me before going to Charlottesville! I think that the Moon series is my kind of guidebook: lots of history, explaining the nuances of each place, interested in the outdoors, traveling on a budget (but not necessarily the cheapest--looking for good value for money), and most of all, the quirky things that other guidebooks miss--what makes places unique.
The northern VA section wasn't nearly as in-depth as other guidebooks, but visiting that area probably isn't a place where Moon's target demographic is likely to go.
This book is great! The maps are helpful and includes great information on how to get around and even gives safety tips. The organization of this book is excellent. The sections on Virginia history are very helpful and interesting. I definitely recommend this one
