This book was difficult on me. I thought the story itself was creative and interesting; however, I wasn't really a fan of the writing style.
The story felt rushed a lot of the times to me. things move very quickly and there was no downtime between events. The tension was high the entire time making moments that should have been tense just like every other scene.
I felt the way the characters behaved was also a little odd and that they seemed to know every little thing they needed to know (or at least discovered the solutions rather quickly) which in a completely new world where things work different and magic exists makes no sense. the main character denying that gryphons exist to accepting everything and becoming what he did with no problem was a problem for me.
The writing style itself was also a problem for me. I felt that at many points the author was trying just to show off how smart she is with her grammar and fancy words. Often it felt out of place and forced to me. the way characters were referred to could also be slightly headache inducing at points. With the main character being referred to, almost randomly it seemed, as four different things (I believe it was four). on at least on occasion two different names/titles either in the same sentence or bordering sentences that blended in my head.
Honestly, I wanted to give it a two star rating but something about the concept/idea behind the book just wouldn't let me do it.
