Rate this book
The Mayor of New Orleans is a collection of three novellas written in the voices of people from the Louisiana region.

The first is The Mayor of New Orleans, the story of a jazz musician who, by fluke, becomes an elected official; a man who must define truth for his constituents.

The second novella, climbing Monkey Hill, concerns Olevia, who discovers in adolescence more about maturity than many adults around her.

The third, Before Echo, shows how one young woman's search for her destiny parallels her migration from the swamps to the city.
