Graham Cooke is a popular conference speaker and is well known for his training programs on the prophetic, spiritual warfare and intimacy with God, leadership and spirituality. He functions as a consultant, specifically helping churches make the transition from one dimension of calling to a higher level of vision and ministry.
Graham has written sixteen books and co-authored two more. He is presently engaged in completing a six volume training series on the prophetic; the first two books in this set are already in print. He has just completed a three book series on The Way of the Warrior and is also working on a second book in The Wisdom Series.
Originally from Manchester, England, he now lives in California. He is the founder of Brilliant Book House and My Emerging Light.
British author and speaker, Graham Cooke, has a voice and inimitable speaking style that makes this book material a listening pleasure. Good clarity, enunciation, and pacing that makes certain the listener catches the words spoken. Appreciably, this allows for greater understanding of the material. And, infusing his presentation with humour makes for easy absorption of that material.
As to the material, foundational background to future present living is presented. Rather than living solely influenced by past actions/beliefs, Cooke introduces the listener to living influenced by what God has spoken. Who we are as revealed in Christ and who we are becoming. Refusing performance oriented living; not having to prove anything to anyone. Living from the core belief and acceptance of God's love for the individual absolves us from that need to perform; to earn an audience with God. Accepting God's delight in us causes us to be a delight in our living that out.
And much more inspiriting material follows, presented with Cooke's unique British humour that relaxes and encourages throughout. As author and presenter, the timing and inflection are authentic to the material.
Recommended for anyone looking for living deeper than surface scriptural understanding regarding blessing, encouragement, and prophetic gifting - the topics listed in the synopsis.
Graham Cooke has 41 years background in living and researching the material covered. British author, speaker, and founder of Brilliant Book House , Cooke is transplanted to CA from Southampton UK. He blogs at Brilliant Perspectives for ongoing interaction in the same vein as this audio. "At Brilliant Perspectives we are breaking old mindsets and religious stereotyping to empower people in all walks of life to embrace their personal journey with God. We are cultivating a lifestyle built on encounters with God that become an ongoing experience of Who He is for us in all circumstances."
I am a disgruntled charismatic and believe that prophecy is a gift that can operate in the church today even if most of the people who claim to be prophets are kooks. I appreciated Graham Cooke's emphasis on the need to offer prophecy in the Spirit of Love and the need for careful discernment, even when you are sure that you discerned God's word correctly.
So why the low rating? Well Cooke claims that this book is part of an updating of an earlier book he wrote on prophecy because he's learned so much about the prophetic that he can no longer say what he needs to say on prophecy in one book. In fact, there are several in the series, that Cooke wants you to read to give his take on prophecy.
Having read this installment, I am not sure that what Cooke needed was multiple volumes to say what needs to be said, but a good editor. I found this book repetitive and poorly organized. Just because you have something to say, doesn't mean you should be trusted to write your own books.
This book is really good, it’s thorough, practical, Biblical, and filled with wisdom. Really recommended for anyone who wants to learn more about prophecy and hearing God’s voice.
An excellent book on what the spiritual gift of prophecy/proclamation is, what it looks like in a non-cooky way, how to use it, and how to continue to grow in said gifting. He takes a difficult topic and writes about it in a way it can be understood - and with examples!
One of the most important takeaways is that prophecy should always be given with grace. I think a lot of men/women feel they have the gift of the prophetic and use it to heart or "preach doom and gloom." Cooke helped me realize that this isn't necessarily the way things need to be done unless you are in a relationship with a person where this is okay. There are ways that we can prophecy or speak truth that preach more about comfort than doom.
The exercises are very helpful as well.
The reason I couldn't give this book 5 stars is because since it was released with a small publishing company, it needed another editor. If you can get past some wordiness and grammatical errors, the information in the book is fantastic. Cooke has done some good work.
I'd recommend this to anyone who feels like they might have the spiritual gift of prophecy/proclamation.
If you have decided to follow the biblical calling to pursue the gift of prophecy... read this book! It is a practical guide, full of great insights and essentials for those ready to step out in faith. This is not a book you can read quickly, it triggers a lot of thinking and processing, which I like!
