[Siren Classic Erotic Alternative Paranormal Romance, M/M, vampires, werewolves, HEA] Over six months. That’s how long Gabriel has been waiting to claim his mate and Caven has been denied a physical relationship with the only man he wants. They’ve both pretty much lost what’s left of their minds by now. Gabriel’s hurt that Caven didn’t tell him about his powers showing up and being broken, and Caven’s wounded that Gabriel didn’t care enough to see something was wrong with him. Not to mention what he’s been seeing in his mate’s head no person should have to. But when Caven finally gets answers to the questions plaguing him, can he turn to Gabriel for support, or will he decide some issues can’t be overcome and walk away? Gabriel will stop at nothing to convince Caven he sees him as the man he fell in love with and not an annoying teenager he’s stuck with for a mate. But will it be enough? This book is written in first-person point of view. ** A Siren Erotic Romance
Gabriel, even though the book is titled after him, isn't the focus of the book, Caven is. It's mostly about Caven coming to terms with his Kappa powers and him coming into being an There is little intimacy or sex between Caven and Gabriel, which is why it seemed different than the other books.
There was a distance that sort of hovered between the mated pair -- they were estranged in the beginning, then Caven had to separate from Gabriel to get a hold on his powers -- all they did then was talk, mostly on the phone and Skype. And when they talked it was mostly about their misunderstandings and misconceptions about each other. While you could tell they loved each other, it wasn't really shown in a way like the other mates.
And then it left on a cliff-hanger leading to the 4th The O'Hagan Way, A Brio Grinder. So the ending was a bit rushed.
OMG how could she end it like that?! I am so upset and then it ends and I'm like WHAT u can't do that tell me what's going to happen!
Anyway this was an awesome book and I'm so glad Gabriel and Caven finally get together, though they have some issues that they have to work out Queen Magdalena finally meets her mate which I think she deserves as she does so much for the mating couples in this world, I hope she has a joyous mating.
Please the next book in is world b released soon I don't know how I will wait it ends on such a cliffhanger I was screaming what happens next?
Let me start by saying that I have already read the majority of the books in this series and was following it for a long time. I lost track of it and realized recently that I had about 4 new books in the Marius World Series to read. But it has been a long time since I read some of them, and I couldn't really remember much of the overarching plot. I also hadn't read much of the "Beyond the Marius Brothers" stories and never even added the ones I read onto Goodreads. I decided to take up the challenge of re-reading all the books (21 so far) in this series chronologically and writing a few thoughts on each. So I will set new dates to the "read date" section as I go along.
Previous Read Date: Feb 14 2013
I was really looking forward to reading this book because I have had a soft spot for Caven and Jalen. Caven grew up awesome. I am so glad that he turned out to be this super-powerful Alpha/ Kappa.
But I am disappointed with the romance aspect of the story. There was none. I mean Gabriel and Caven were barely together and the whole book was about Caven's training. It`s a good thing that the mating bond brings about insta-love (though the characters in the book claim that all it brings is insta-lust), because otherwise, the way the relationship between the two is shown in the book, I would assume that they just met.
Yep. Still love my shifter stories. This one by Joyee Flynn was good, and the thought of vampires and wolves being mated tickles me to no end.
What was wrong with this story? Nothing. It’s a very good read. I had a hard time scoring it because I came in seven books into the series and knew nothing of the characters. That’s my fault, and should not in any way infer that it’s a problem with the book. In fact, I suggest you get the book from the beginning and explore this complex world where the rules are different than most shifter worlds.
Caven is a different kind of wolf. One who may be more than what he thinks he can be. His former Alpha raped him. His mate, Gabriel, seems to think of him as a child. What’s even worse? His powers are out of whack and he has no idea what to do about it.
Gabriel has reasons for not claiming Caven, but he’s not explaining them to the young wolf. When they finally come to light, it’s an ahh moment.
If you like shifters, you’re going to like these characters, but be sure to start at the beginning.
Once we get the low-down on what is up with Caven, all of his actions make sense. I was not disappointed with Gabriel when he learned what was really going on with his mate. He goes out of his way to make up for his behavior. And he handles the knowledge of his mate being or becoming an Alpha really well.
Elder was a nice addition and should make a great mate to the Queen. But even realizing this is about Gabriel and Caven, I felt disappointed in the delivery of the Queen finding her other mate and actually hoped that maybe the previous mate would have been reincarnated or something for a full tri-mate.
Moving on to the other MAJOR thing.. the END... major cliffhanger (sorry not spoiling it!) that if you've read all the books associated with this world (not just this series) will have you on the edge of your seat and wanting to strangle the author for leaving us in this bind to find out what happens next.. AND that it better be some kind of mistake or be able to be fixed!
Well its not the best Joyee book. Its not even the best in this series. We waited oh so long for another installment in the regular Marius Brothers series. This wasnt quite worth the wait. The book isnt terrible it just isnt amazing. I wish that the conflict between the MCs was expanded on just a bit. Its almost as if we came into the story at mid point. The conflict was at its tipping point within the first couple pages! But the book is still worth a read but only if you are a faithful joyee/Marius fan. This isnt the kind of book that you could read on its own. You have to have read the others in order to get any real enjoyment from it in my opinion. But as always, I will say that writing a book is no small feat and Joyee Flynn is an amazing author who I read faithfully. This review is simply my opinion and I encourage you to read the book and come to your own conclusions. :-)
My least favorite in the series so far :( Maybe I needed more of a background on Caven? Perhaps I should have read his brother's story first? I don't know.
They were also separated for a lot of this and I didn't like that. Gabriel and Caven are not my favorite couple. I thought Gabriel had to give up too much for Caven and Caven didn't even talk to him about anything. Then the Elder just assumed Caven would be Alpha and took him to solitude to train. Ummm...shouldn't Caven TALK to Gabriel about all of this? Made me sad :( I don't think Gabriel is going to be very happy in the future and that hurts my heart. I think Caven is a selfish bastard.
This story could be so much more if it was NOT in 1st person, going back and forth between the two main characters. It is distracting and breaks the flow of the story. It can also take on a young adult feel at times because of this POV.
It's always a pleasure to see what is happening with the Marius & O'Hagan families.
At this point in the series, it becomes really hard to continue to follow the story line without reading the books in the parallel series (Beyond the Marius Brothers, etc). I found this pretty annoying. If you can move past the many plot points that you don't understand, the story was decent.
I enjoyed reading about the relationship between Caven and Gabriel. Caven had to work through his powers while also becoming the Alpha. The two of them went through many misunderstandings but their love just grew stronger. It was a very interesting and entertaining read. =)
