R. Kent Hughes (DMin, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School) is senior pastor emeritus of College Church in Wheaton, Illinois, and a visiting professor of practical theology at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Hughes is also a founder of the Charles Simeon Trust, which conducts expository preaching conferences throughout North America and worldwide. He and his wife, Barbara, have four children and an ever-increasing number of grandchildren.
I think this book is okay if a new believer is reading this with a group of other guys to help weed out the over generalizations and specific ideologies that Kent believes but are not actual sound doctrine. I liked reading it with my friend but wouldn't recommend. Too many random examples and plain untruths that are left in. Not a great book. Celebration of Disciplines is much better.
Very practical and theologically sound…guidance that’s rooted in and derived from Scripture with timely reminders and warnings for men. I especially appreciated the clarity between legalism and discipline (Chpt 1).
