Easygoing but chronically uneasy, college freshman Billy Williams encounters the cool beauty who deflowered him and impulsively decides to move to California with the very pregnant Zizi and work as a farmhand
Read this during my college dropout year ('81ish). Another Holden Caulfieldesque coming of age novel. Good book, and notable in that its author was eventually discredited for plagiarizing some passages in it.
The main character, Billy, in this 1971 college-based novel, has a lot on his mind. He is an introspective and imaginative main character. Some of the things that go on in his head definitely are humorous!
When I was 3/4s of the way through the book I still didn't see any 'wild oats' being sown. So while this book wasn't what I expected, it was still an enjoyable read.
I got the symbolism of the spider at the end. Yeah me!
