The first ever Coretta Scott King book award winner, written by a Baltimore librarian. I read this out loud to my 4th graders, and it was great.

This book is about Martin Luther Kings Jr.'s childhood. His parents taught him how special and loved he was. He got involved in ministry and the church. He was exposed to racism when his best friend was white and was no longer allowed to be friends with him. After this exposure it only got worse as he got older. He decided to peaceful change this belief.

This book is important to read to children. It talks about how King was raised and how he became who he is. He decided that he wanted to stand up for his rights peacefully instead of violently. I would rate this book 5/5 because of the education it provides.

This book was an awesome way to teach young children the ways of resolving conflict without the needs of violence. This book serves as a teaching tool of the practices of Martin Luther King Jr., which will incorporate knowledge of diversity and limiting of stereotypes.

Martin Luther King, Jr; Man of Peace by Lillie Patterson is a non-fiction book that is intended for middle school age readers in grades 6-8. This book is a Newbery Honor book. This book is a biography of Martin Luther King Jr. and describes how he became a minister, an orator, and a crusader for equal civil rights.
I really liked this book because the language and illustrations in the book were beautiful. I also think Martin Luther King Jr was a strong character who worked hard and fought non-violently for what he believed in. I think this book would be appealing to young readers because it teaches them how important it is to stand up for what you believe in and to keep trying even when you fail many times. It also teaches young readers about cultural diversity and that all U.S. citizens should have equal civil rights regardless of their race. After reading this book in a classroom, teachers could have their students create their own "I Have a Dream" speech that states what they believe in and how they think their beliefs can be accomplished.
