Charli & Hamish

Rate this book
Imagine travelling back through time to the ancient supercontinent of Gondwana where extinct animals still exist and mystical spirits roam the forests. That is what happens to eleven-year-old Nellie Russell. She rescues New Zealanders, nine-year-old Charli and her half-brother Hamish, who are trapped in a cave. Together they must complete a dangerous mission, pass a mysterious Big Test and find their way to the centre of Gondwana before sunset or they will be trapped on the pre-historic continent forever. Will they all make it back to the centre in time?

I grew up in a small Australian town called Orbost in the state of Victoria. I spent my childhood chasing snakes and lizards down hollow logs, playing Hansel and Gretel in the bush with my brothers, climbing trees, searching the local rubbish tip for books to read and generally behaving like a feral child. We didn't have horses (apart from an old draught horse) but we had sheep so I used to ride on the back of a big ram. I also did a lot of reading, usually curled up in the hay shed. These days I live in Melbourne (Australia) where, when I am not writing, I work as an English tutor and I still do a little oral storytelling.

My mother's story 'Whisper my Secret' and its sequel "Mother of Ten' are both Amazon best sellers. I also write the Dusty Kent murder mysteris under the pen name Brigid George.

My first novel, Whisper My Secret, is now available as an ebook: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007JP88NA
The sequel to Whisper My Secret is Mother of Ten:

After eleven year old Nellie passed the Big Test in Gondwana in book one (Trapped in Gondwana), and was returning to her home through the bright light, she suddenly turned around and ran back toward Gondwana…she wanted to spend more time with her new friends Meg and Pari, not wanting to leave them so soon after their adventures. But she was surprised to find she was not in the same place she had run from a few minutes before….she was in a part of Gondwana she hadn’t seen, or been to the last time she was there.

When the master of Gonwana, Gondvan, appeared in front of her, she wasn’t frightened of him like she had been, but she wanted to know where she was, and where Meg and Pari were. He told her she was now a visitor, so could go anywhere she liked…but if she wanted to help save Charli and Hamish, she had to become a traveller again, and complete the Big Test before sunset, or she, Charli and Hamish would be trapped in Gondwana forever.

Will Nellie save Charli and Hamish, and will she see Meg and Pari again? What will their adventures be this time? Will they make it through the Big Test before sunset?

I really enjoyed this second adventure of Nellie and her friends as they travelled through Gondwana, experiencing the ancient animals and creatures which they had only previously known from books. JB Rowley’s wonderful imagination throughout these great books is uplifting…I hope there will be another adventure with Nellie and her friends.
