A comprehensive overview of the nutrition, health, and safety needs of young children from birth through school age, Nutrition, Health, and Safety for Young Promoting Wellness, 2/e prepares future educators to implement healthful practices and teach young children ways to contribute to their own wellness. Through anecdotes, cases, and authentic examples, the authors use a storytelling approach that helps contextualize wellness concepts for readers, promote thinking about professional situations, and offer a glimpse into the everyday classroom environment–diverse populations of young children in family child care, child care centers, preschools, and elementary school settings. In this new edition, the text has been streamlined to 16 chapters and still covers the wide range of challenges that teachers of young children are facing today, such an increasingly diverse population of young learners, more identified food allergies, concern about the obesity epidemic, the increase in pertussis (whooping cough) cases, focus on serving children with special health care needs in classrooms, new kinds of threats to children’s safety, and increased awareness of the need to develop healthy environments and use sustainable practices in early childhood settings. The perfect book for a health, safety, and nutrition class, it covers everything we need to know in regards to those three subjects. It stresses the importance of intertwining the three, and how without one you will not have the other two. It has example lesson plans on how to incorporate teachings on these three areas in the classroom. Basic universal precautions are covered, as well as some regulations around food and safety. Other things covered include: Feeding infants; feeding young children; menu planning; food safety; managing infections disease; health screening; creating safe environments; responding to emergencies; and child abuse and neglect. A go to resource for all of that information formatted in a friendly, inviting, understandable manner.

Read this book for my "Wellness in the Early Childhood Setting" that I actually did enjoy, and learned a lot from, throughout the class, and reading this book. This book has some good information that you need to know about children. I use this book for all my assignments (most of them) the ones that were required to use this book. Good book with good information.
