This book took me a lot longer to read than I wanted it to, but I am SO glad I finished it. Despite it being written 20 years ago, it is still so relevant. I love the idea of the Omnivore's Dilemma, what should we eat and how do we know? It highlighted so many important considerations - what is organic, how do we eat (on the run, in the car, with our family), how does our upbringing or culture impact what / how we eat. Where do our ethical feelings about food lie. Great discussion book, great choice for a community read.
I accidentally picked up the Young Reader's Edition of this classic, and did not regret it. This is a balanced, consumer's-eye view of the various systems via which we can get our food, that makes environmentally responsible recommendations, and acknowledges that our choices are individual and made for complex reasons.
So rich and full of information that we all need to be aware of. How our food is grown and handled and what we really are being sold in the end. A hard read but glad I did. With knowledge we have power and can improve life for those ahead of us.
