This helped explain a lot of grammar issues that I am meeting with in the Duolingo course. Junior high French classes never touched on future or past tense.
I read the entire book through and now I am going to read through parts again and do the exercises alongside Duo.
This is the first dummies book which I both began and ended still feeling the same about my knowledge of the subject it addressed. I was lost on French grammar before reading this book; and sadly I still remain there. That is not to say it is of no use to a person just starting to learn French; but it is too much to take in and use in one read, I think. It uses to much of the foreign language to explain the foreign language to be of great use to a person whom does not know that language to begin with; hence the dummies book. So I would say it would be of best use to a person who knows at least a bit of french first. That said it is somewhat useful to people such as myself who are using rosetta stone; which gives nothing in the way of grammar, yet expects you to figure it out. In which case this book will at least be a leg up in explaining why some of the things are marked the way that they are in the program. My guess is that if you reread this book as you move along in that program, it would be of maximum use to you. As is, it was disappointing to me, this time at least.
