I think this book might have been designed for absolute novices to the Civil War. It doesn't go into any detail about the battle and uses only a single map for each of the three days. At times, it seems more like a collection of magazine articles than a coherent book; for example, the "Road to Gettysburg" section includes a six page overview of the events leading up to the war, the entire secession crisis, and the first two years of the war. Near the end of the book is a chapter by Richard Corliss, which reviews several Civil War movies, few of which even mention Gettysburg.

Can't say I was too impressed with this book. Of course, I have read plenty of other books about the battle. Maybe this would be/ is intended for someone who knows absolutely nothing whatsoever about the battle?
