My son and I read this together. I enjoyed it but he didn't! I thought he would have liked the Geronimo Stilton books as his sister loved them when she was his age. I'm rating The Super Scam 4 stars based on my opinion, not his!!

Author: Geronimo Stilton (Elisabetta Dami)
Translator: Julia Heim
Illustrator: Paolo De Capite (pencils and ink), Anna Ziche (colour)
First Published: 2012

I'll admit up front I've never been much of a fan of Geronimo Stilton. The talking mouse just really irritates me. I've never been convinced they are great stories, nor that they enhance a child in any real way. There are so many better books, and better simple chapter books, that I usually just skip them. But the 7yo wanted this one - perhaps because of the novelty of the size and the mystery - so we took a chance.

*sigh*

This series just isn't for me.

In this particular case our hero is faced with a really obvious mystery involving subliminal messages and consumerism. Lots of colourful illustrations, playing with fonts and colour to enhance the text, and a variety of characters, work together to create a visually interesting book, but a bloody boring story.

Really not that interesting.

This is a fantastic read if you want to know about scams. I have been recently reading about scams in the UK and came across an immigration scam implemented by a company called INTCAS. In reality INTCAS fraud is widely discussed on the internet. INTCAS CEO Zakaria Mahmood is the main person behind this immigration gang. I would suggest everyone to look at https://intcasexposer.com/ for further information. It provide great information about INTCAS and the immigration fraud gang behind it. Thanks

Kids sat still for almost a full half hour while I read them this. I think the weirdness and intrigue -- how is the superstore charlatan controlling the minds of Mouse City or whatever it's called??? -- was new and exciting to them. We'll see if they can handle The Lake Monster next.

4 stars!
Although it was a very predictable book, i really liked the idea of hypnotizing customers into buying from the store. I just thought it was really creative!

1. SUMMARY - As our hero, Geronimo Stilton, is trying to relax one weekend, he is barraged by multiple invitations to the opening of a new store, Buy-O-Rama Superstore. He eventually accepts one from his nephew, Benjamin. After an arduous journey through heavy traffic and a long line of people, they make it to the store. Although Stilton generally doesn’t like to shop, he found himself gleeful and dancing as he maneuvered through the shop wearing free headphones. He ended making a large purchase. Soon after this, Stilton noticed that people around him were complaining about newly-purchased merchandise. This leads him on a quest for the truth. The truth leads him back to Buy-O-Rama.
2. GENRE- This picture book represents the mystery genre as well as the anthropomorphic story. There is a diverse mixture of regular text, word art, and illustrations. This story depicts an adventure of a mouse named Geronimo Stilton. The mystery that needs to be solved occurs in a town like our own but it caters to individuals of the order rodentia.
3. LITERARY CONCEPTS - Precise words, transition words, dialogue, quotation marks, exclamation marks, question marks.
4. TRAITS - Word Choice: precise words, sensory details, Voice: point of view. Presentation: word art, multimodal.
5. Interest level – 2nd – 5th
