Why is fall the most appropriately named season? Readers will learn the answer to this question and much more in this captivating new title. From cooler temperatures and fewer daylight hours to colorful leaves and warmer clothing, readers will discover the many signs of the fall season.
Neo was able to learn a little more about fall, or autumn. He began to understand why it gets colder and the leaves change. He was especially interested in the hibernation and migration of some animals. Neo did wonder why we do not hibernate, as sleeping lots sounds fun.
How Do We Know It Is Fall? uses actual photographs and descriptive kid friendly language to paint an image of what fall is like in our part of the world. The book discusses changes to the weather such as the changing of trees and temperature. It talks about what animals do in the fall and more. This book is a great way to introduce young students to fall or students who may come from a part of the world where fall looks very different.
How Do We Know It Is Fall? is an informational book that is best suited for younger grades, K-1. This book can be used as a read aloud to introduce students to a Fall thematic unit and teach them all about this particular season. It could also be used as a read aloud for a science unit as you are teaching about all four seasons.
This is a WOW book for me because the author does such a great job of describing the different changes we see in fall that the reader can imagine that it is fall no matter what the actual season is at the moment.
This is a cute book with actual photographs depicting fall. I would use this as a read-aloud for students in kindergarten or first grade for an introductory lesson on fall. It is filled with a lot of information about fall that students may not already know. The students will also enjoy the photography.
How Do We Know It Is Fall? That's easy. This Goodreader has an easy-ish answer at least:
Go live on a planet without Climate Change.
Now, joke's over. Getting down to business with this book review, I'm so glad to read this book by Molly Aloian. She's one of my favorite authors around, for this age group. So intelligent, and always striking an accessible tone.
She manages to bring scope and variety to the topic of recognizing the fall season. Chapters include these topics:
*When is fall? * Big changes * Fall weather * Plants in fall * Animal in fall * Fall fun * Fall harvest * Tree time
ANOTHER THING I LOVE ABOUT THIS BOOK
Molly creates longish sentences. They're easy to understand. By doing that... she may stretch the listening ears of young readers. For instance:
During fall, birds become quieter and many insects and other animals start looking for shelter for the cold winter.
Yay, for the writing here; also for the content, and Molly's gentle way of challenging readers to THINK.
