Breeds #10

Aiden's Charity

Rate this book
The forces of survival and destruction swirl in the darkest corners of men's minds. The nature of the beast cannot be harnessed, and survival is the purest of all instincts. Survival of the species itself goes soul deep. But can the human heart accept and adapt as easily? Can Charity bestow the love and the acceptance that has always been a part of her, to the man whose very survival depended on the hardening of his heart, of his soul? And can Aiden maintain that cruelty now, in the face of the sacrifices she made? Only time and nature can tell.

Breeds 12
Wolf Breeds 4
Featured Couple: Aiden (Wolf) & Charity (Human)
Location: Haven – Wolf Breeds’ base

“Aiden's Charity”, “Wolfe's Hope” and “Jacob's Faith” are three books closely related that are basically introducing the Wolf Breeds and their base Haven.

Aiden, Wolfe and Jacob were friends since the time they were at the same lab trying to survive the experiments. When the Breeds’ existence become known to the public, Wolfe took the role of the leader of all Wolf Breeds, while Aiden and Jacob have been taken care the security in Haven.

Six year ago, Aiden was always trying to protect his sister Faith from the lab cruelties. He was a stubborn strong-willed guy who refused to breed. Scientists thought he was sexually incompetent and they decided to exterminate him.

Charity was working at the lab (she was secretly an agent), she had feelings for Aiden and she decided to prove he was not incompetent and to save his life. Well, she succeeded to prove he can get it up. But after that Aiden hated her for ever and Charity went home with a Mating Heat out of the blue that lasted six year.

Nowadays they meet again, Aiden still hates Charity and Charity still suffers from Mating Heat.

The book is one of my favorites from the Wolf Breed subseries.

Important details:
-Winged Breeds are still present and they are helping the other Breeds.
-Del-Rey, the Coyote leader is introduced in this book. His full story and his HEA with a human can be found in “Coyote's Mate”.

After the less-than-thrilling previous stories ('Wolfe´s Hope' and 'Jacob´s Faith'), 'Aiden´s Charity' was a nice addition to the series. Not the best, but good enough.

Aiden and Charity were both likeable characters. LL makes extra points with me for making Aiden overcome his misplaces hatred for Charity and accept his mating with her rather quickly, instead of having him nursing it till the end of the book. On the other hand, Charity´s refusal to acknowledge the mating was unreasonable and unbelievable. Okay, she was a scientist and, maybe, she was trying to rationalize things, but she KNEW what was happening inside her body BEFORE the Council kidnapped her and pumped those drugs into her system. There was something amiss with her thinking, IMHO.

As for the plot, this book presented some new twist to the Breeds story arc and introduced new secondary characters, leaving many loose ends that, I hope, will be addressed in the next books in the series. Come to think of it, I think nothing was really resolved in 'Aiden´s Charity' - aside from granting Aiden and Charity their deserved HEA, that is.

One final thought: I wish LL hadn´t made the "backdoor loving" a must for the Breed Wolves. It should be something born out of the love, trust and connection between the H/h, not something that had to be done to complete the mating.

erotica/paranormal ; Wolf Breeds 3

lora leigh writes hot erotica, but this one was brought one notch higher and was scorching right from the very beginning.

Aiden has been sentenced to death after scientists have failed to arouse a sexual response from him, thus making him useless for the breed labs. In a desperate act to save him, Charity tries everything that she can to break his hard-won control.

the only drawback from this book is that it starts off incredibly with a plot that had so much potential in it that when you go through the storyline, your expectations are already high. Your built up with so much excitement that when you finally go through the climax, you'd think it could have been better.

nevertheless, this remains a sorchingly good read and is one of my favorites among the breed series.

will read again and again and again...

Wonderful story about Aiden, a Wolf Breed and Charity, imprisoned for years by the Breed Council where they were tortured so horribly before escaping and meeting up again six years later.

It’s a very emotional story with characters that you can’t help getting involved with and caring for them.
You feel their pain, sorrow, fear and your heart breaks into tiny pieces as you see them trying to find happiness and freedom.

Love seeing my loved characters from previous books and finding out how their lives are continuing together with their mates and families.

This is a great addition to the series.

In the Lab Aiden was very good at controlling his body's responses, even despite the drugs pumped into his system. But one lone woman shattered that control, bringing out the beast that swore revenge for the betrayal.

Six years later, Charity is one of the experiments. Her bond with Aiden made her unique and the Genetic Council's favorite new toy. In order to stay alive, Charity must give her life in the hands of the man she loves despite the knowledge of his hate. Aiden is the only one who can save her. But will owning her life be enough or will this lone wolf play for her heart as well?

The plot was minimal at best, but still thicker as in the previous Wolf Breed book. Unfortunately the secret it was built on - the secret that Charity supposedly held - was never explained or at least hinted at after the initial teaser.

There was little depth in the characters, which is quite an anomaly in a Lora Leigh book, the conflict could've been expanded further, and Charity's stubbornness seemed forced at best. The whole relationship and interaction between characters was too "going through the motions" to be believable and the almost abrupt ending didn't help matters...But that's EC for you. Bummer.

The epilogue was one of the brightest points in this book and I wish I could read Hawke's story. Hopefully from another publisher and a whole lot of plot.

Created by mixing of Human/Animal DNA & trained by a secret consul to be an expendable soldier, Aiden, a wolf breed, endures torture and out right slavery at the whim of his creators.

Still, Aiden has been able to control the one area of life he HAS under his power- his sexual urges- to confound the Scientists who want to use him as a lab rat. Until Charity comes along. As far as Aiden knows, Charity works for the scientists, yet he's drawn to her. The Head scientists notice this and use her to draw him out. If he doesn't give a reaction this time he will be exterminated, because more than anything, the consul wants a second generation of Breeds- one they hope is more tractable.

Charity, has loved Aiden from the beginning, and to save him she forces Aiden to betray his own will so that he may live.

The rest of the novel is Aiden and Charity working through that betrayal when they cross paths after the breeds have been resuced. It doesn't take them long to discover they are linked forever- despite what either of them may wish.

Very good addition to the Wolf Breed series created by Lora Leigh.

I wouldn't even give this book one star. It was the absolute worst book in the series to date. And that's saying a lot, in light of Tanner's Scheme and Wolfe's Hope. It saddens me because I truly was a fan of the Breed series. Sigh.

***CONTAINS SPOILERS***

I had several problems with this story line. By far, my biggest problem: the way Aiden's story begins. Aiden and other wolf breeds are being held in a lab where they are tortured, raped, and studied. Aiden refuses to get it up for the evil doctor because he doesn't want to be forced into having sex, so he's slotted to be killed. Charity (a lab tech) knows that rescue is forthcoming but instead of explaining this to Aiden, she betrays him by molesting him in front of the evil doctor. By forcing oral sex on Aiden, Charity gets him hard and Aiden thereafter is repeatedly forced to have sex against his will. Okay, no matter how you spell it, that's rape. Sadly, Lora Leigh downplays this horrible violation and portrays Charity in the role of a savior for her actions. Un-freakin'-believable! If Aiden was "Adrianna" and Charity was "Charles," no one would be romanticizing her molestation. Yet it was okay to for Charity to molest Aiden because he's a man? Rape is rape. Period. Shame on Leigh to suggest otherwise.

With that as the premise, this story was obviously eff'ed up from the beginning. Needless to say, I did not find anything heroic about the heroine. She was condescending, unremorseful, selfish, and stupid. For a supposedly gifted scientist and expert on the Breed's, she was pretty clueless regarding her mating with Aiden. She obstinately denies their mating bond for 99% of the book. Definitely not the sharpest tack in the box. Although Aiden was likeable enough, his adoration of Charity was so unattractive that, in the end, I didn't care what happened to him.

Lastly, I couldn't stand Dr. Nicole Armani. What an irritating bitch. She's supposedly dedicated to the Breeds and their cause, yet she is disrespectful and shows very little patience with them. She constantly puts them down, often in tandem with Charity. Her negative attitude towards the Breed was completely incongruous with her supposed role and, ultimately, her character's dialogue was aggravating and distracting. My suggestion: the Breeds should've capped her sorry ass.

I'm a Lora Leigh fan and, until now, have been a fan of the Breed series. At this point, however, I am really reluctant to continue on with the series.

Sorry, I forgot to add to the currently reading shelf.
Review coming soon.

After reading Wolfe's Hope and Jacob's Faith, Aiden's Charity was a blow of fresh air.
From the begining, this book followed a the finalplot line and my interest was spiked up from the first chapter to the last.

I loved this book for it's final idea (at least for me) that sometimes feelings and logic, nature and science, don't walk hand in hand, but they compromise and complete each other.

Aiden is a breed that was created for one purpose only, to match his genetics with a female to allow conception for the wolf breed.
Never allowing it to happen, he controls and hides his body's reaction to the mad scientists that rule the lab where he's emprisioned...until Charity comes along.
From that moment on he no longer can fake his reaction and goes for years hating her for the feelings that awaken in his body and soul.

On the other hand, Charity can't allow Aiden to be a disposible pawn in the council hands and saves him from the ultimate punishment...death.
From this point the story thicken's and Aiden will be the only one to have a shot at saving Charity from certain death.

Their relationship is complicated but very balanced throughout the book, from hate to love, from revenge to respect.
We are also introduced to a new kind of Breed caracters, Winged Breeds and to Del Rey, the coyote breed that further on has it's own book.

As a hole picture, I think that M. Leigh achieved her goal, to us readers see the wolf breeds as a hole, united, with their own achivements and problems.
It's a hole new world to explore.

I have read all of the books in Lora Leigh's Breed series and I have never been disappointed. I had a hard time getting my hands on a copy of AIDEN'S CHARITY because everywhere I went and looked, it was sold out --- but it was so worth the trouble and the wait. I could not put this book down and read it from start to finish in one sitting.

Both Aiden's and Charity's characters are well defined and the storyline is emotional and suspenseful. Full of heat ... romance ... and, erotica. This is definitely one of Ms. Leigh's best!

For some reason I didn't have this book. When I read Styx's Storm, I was looking at the all the Breed books I had read and noticed I skipped this one. This was much better than Styx's Storm, where at least the hero and heroine were likable.

Charity was a mole in the Council, helping the Breeds behind the scene. She meets Aiden while he is imprisoned at a lab and in order to save his life, gives him a blow job. Yes, you read that right! Well, there were repercussions on a molecular level.

Aiden’s Charit
Breeds, Book #12
Wolf Breeds #4
By Lora Leigh
ISBN# 9781419954467

Brought to you by OBS reviewer Heidi

Aiden didn’t want to go back to get Charity. She had betrayed him in the labs, the only person that could get past his steely sexual control and actually evoked a reaction from him. The scientists had believed him to be impotent until Charity proved otherwise. Afterwards, he couldn’t control the gripping need for her and did all the depraved scientists had wanted. It didn’t matter that Charity did it to save his life, he vowed vengeance from then on. Now the psychic winged breeds claim she’s his mate, the one that can save the wolf breeds, the first that will be able to have a child (his child) and continue their race. But Aiden can’t accept a mating with a woman he despises with his every breath. However, his pack won out and he saved Charity, who was dying in the jungle, in her attempt to escape the labs. The horrors and tests they had put her through were unthinkable. The Council thinks they have finally figured out how to breed the Breeds and she was their Guinea pig. They won’t let all the research and effort they’ve put into it go to waste. They will come for her, and it will be his job to protect her.

This was another great steamy read in the Breeds series. I must say that Leigh has really improved her characters. I loved Aiden! He seemed so harsh at the end of the previous book, Jacob’s Faith, and I for sure thought he was going to be a total jerk, but surprisingly he wasn’t! He was so sweet and tender with his mate, even when he was in denial. When it came time for him to assert his dominance over her and complete their mating, he couldn’t have done it in a more understanding, gentle, and caring way. And, I adored how protective he was of her, even if the good doctor and his pack mates did not agree with me!

This book ended with an unlikely alliance being formed and a nice segue into the next book. Poor Hawke appears to have an uphill battle on his hands to protect his mate from the pack and Breed Law. But I have no doubt he will keep her safe!

As far as the breed books go I am still on team feline.
This book finally gave some to the back story and added some depth to the wolf breed characters that the previous books had been missing. The mates to the wolves have been much more stubborn and are hard to like. They have far more tragic back stories, leading me to think that they play in bigger part in books to come.
Charity has by far one of the most gruesome and heartbreaking back stories and extreme difficulty with the mating heat.
Betrayal runs deep in the growing wolf pack and the council is up to no good. They are targeting the most fertile mates, for what we are not quite sure yet. Hopefully we will find out soon.
The wolves and felines are quickly joining forces in order to try and keep their own safe.

30/3 - 3.5 really. I found this a bit hard to follow due to it being the middle of a series; number 12 in the original Breeds series, number 3 in the Wolf Breeds offshoot series. My confusion regarding the character's prior relationships with each other is my own fault for not checking its series status before borrowing it. Despite never reading a book from this series, I felt like I had read it before. Maybe because there's so many different Breeds, it reminds me of Christine Feehan's Leopard People series which also has numerous human/animal hybrid species and features some very hot, explicit, animalistic sex scenes.

I had quite a disturbing nightmare (which is actually a recurring nightmare that's always just a little different, which I've been having for decades) last night that I think was triggered by the continuing theme of the compound the characters live in being under frequent attack and infiltration by shadowy government forces. I dreamt that my parents were away (I live with my parents and they were actually away this weekend) and my brother and I were the only ones left in the house (he no longer lives at home). At some point in the dream I realised that some very determined burglars were trying to break into the house. I had locked the security screen door and the main door, but they threw a mini grenade (about the size of a marble, in the dream) at the front door and somehow that unlocked everything (it didn't blow the doors off, they just became unlocked). My brother had put the pets in my parents bedroom so they wouldn't get injured in the coming battle and we were getting ready to repel the intruders with the thick newel post my dad keeps under the bed (for just such an occasion) when I woke up panting and sweating. Not the calmest start to a Sunday ever.

Aiden sucks as a character. He's whining constantly throwing away his motivation at almost every turn than raising the banner of it. He's so damn annoying and pouty from the first page to last. He's a worthless piece of shit. Had he.. ANY DAMN HONOR ... he would be using his words. I can't get behind this guy and it takes away from the book as a whole. Worst of all it's in his person. his POV is filled with very little redeeming moments (with throughput)

son of a bitch.

Charity is a great character she's interesting motivated. Stubborn in a bad way, thoughtful. Fearful so she's not a total JI Jane. it's wonderful to watch her at work. I love that she's a scientist we get so few books with a girl in a brain in there. The problem is Aiden suck.

At the same time.........

3 star.

really Charity is 5 stars

Aiden is 1. lol.

Careful not to betray himself or his pack mates to the cruel scientists in the Mexican lab, Aiden fought his desire for Charity. He refused to do Delia Bainsmith's bidding and begged Charity to let him die. Trying to save Aiden's life, Charity did what was necessary against his will. Aiden swore vengeance as he felt the change and hunted Charity when the lab exploded and the workers were reassigned.

Years later, Aiden found Charity near death, bleeding and crawling through the rubble of the freshly raided South American lab. Charity had been unmasked months ago as a council traitor for smuggling information and freeing winged breeds. She became an experiment when they realized she was mated to Aiden. Furious, Aiden wanted his sworn vengeance despite what his senses screamed.

This outing wraps the Mexican lab wolf pack establishing a far and separate sanctuary from the felines in the East. This outing is stronger than its predecessors of this arc to my taste, with more suspense, action and answers, in addition to new information from the labs and exciting new breeds and characters.

This is Aiden and Charity's story and it was just OK. I wasn't ecstatic about the story, not only do we have a tortured hero, but we have a tortured heroine as well. Their wasn't really built in the strongest foundations and the usual betrayal is here.

I wasn't able to connect with the characters, and the story was slow-paced. Sure things were better with Aiden and Charity, truths went out, their actions justified, and their feelings bared. Not much went on that's why it took me a week to finish this. The sex scenes were good as usual, and there's always the scene where the guys just have to force the girls into submission.

There's the introduction of Del-Rey, the Coyote who mated with a human, and I'm sure their story is lined up along the way, I was intrigued with Hawke's mate though. I have nothing more to say about this book so I'm reading the next.

I read this book when it was first released by Ellora's Cave. By then, Lora Leigh had already released two other Breed books. I must say though that Aiden's Charity is one of my favorites. I just picked it up again (because I changed e-readers and couldn't get my original copy to transfer) and I'm glad I did. I spent the past couple of nights re-reading it. I enjoyed it just as much this time around as I did all those years ago. It's erotic romance at its finest.

I thought this was the worst of the Breeds books I've read to date. Charity didn't know what she wanted, waffling from one minute to the next. Aiden was a little better, once he got over his bitterness towards Charity. He actually tried and you could see that.

I have to say also that the editing in this book was atrocious. That lent as much to my disappointment as the storyline did.

Aiden's story was interesting and I really enjoy the flashback to when they were in the labs. Charity on the other had was a points likable but at other points really annoying. She knew about the mating yet she kept fighting with Aiden about it.

I enjoyed the coyote part and am looking forward to reading more about them.
